Its amazing isnt it... one week your on a tropical island paradise and the next sipping tea and munching scones high in the mountains!
The Cameron Highlands is best described as the Malaysian Lake District or known to the locals as 'Little England'.
As we approached the Cameron Highlands, driving higher and higher into the mountains, the cloud grew and grew until we were totally surrounded in cloud...the driver, apparently unaware of the lack of visability continued to drive our coach as fast as possible swinging around the bends and up the mountain. We eventually stopped and jumped off the coach (frozen solid after 6 hours of full on air conditioning) to find that not only was it raining but it was also freezing cold!! This was quite a shock as you can imagine!
We found our way to fathers guesthouse and made ourselves at home. Fathers guesthouse is an old british army barracks and looks exactly as you would imagine it to. The rooms are small with bunck beds squashed into the long dombed tin huts, it was great!
Little England is completely right, its cold, drizzley, green and hilly. Ideal for walking and having cream
teas! There area has several tea planations so tea is readily available everywhere which is good due to the cold! There are lots of walks to be done in the surrounding areas visiting these tea planations and through the jungle. We walked several of these and got very muddy and wet. After one walk through the jungle and past a the 'boh' tea plantation we found ourselves on a road 9 kms away from our guesthouse, unable to find a bus we began the long walk home, luckily after about 3 mins a guy stopped and asked us if we wanted a lift back which we readily accepted!! just shows how friendly people are here!
Apart from walking there wasnt too much else to do apart from eat and drink tea...we had a great time!!! Was a nice reminder of home but after 3 days we remembered why we werent at home and decided it was time to move back to warmer climates!
