We'd heard rumours and whispers from other travellers that Laos was the "hidden treasure" of south east asia...and a after week spent here we discovered this is truly the best way to describe this stunning country which sits on the eastern border of Thailand...
Chiang Khong:
We arrived in this border town late in the afternoon, with a mini-van full of friends ready to be made. We all bonded that evening when we stumbled across the town's annual Temple Festival which was hilarious! Before we knew it we were whisked on to the dance floor, ribboned lays sprung around our necks and all the local bachelors lining up for a dance!! As quickly as we learned the traditional Thai dance moves, we were stripped of our lays, thrown off the dance floor and sent on our way! The rest of the party played bingo till way after we'd left the following morning!! We did not sleep much that night........
Slow Boat to Luang Prabang:
We took a long boat over the border, and we were in Laos!! Hurray!Our second country, more stamps to decorate our passports, yay!! We got on our slow boat and set out for our 2

you are absolutelly amazing at staying in touch - a real example. i love your updates. it all looks soooooooooo much fun. i think i am most jealous yet of the tubing (although flying through the air like a bat looks slightly more high-risk).
i spoke to tim the other day and pearl promises to call soon so i am still in touch with some of the fabulous harpers.

ok, dont wanna scare you but HOLY Mother of mary, what the helen clark???? so i just saw all your laos photo's for the first time, (my computer actually sucks) i am so excited for you guys, a little jelous, actually a whole lot helous, woah, this stuff is straight from a gorgeous travel book???? note to selves, hope your sending this to plenty of cute chriso boys/ or men(for liv) back home cos you are looking HOT HOT HOT girls, especially with the Laos background to complement your smiles.

Luang PrabangWe hired these fantastic bicycles for the day and rode around the divine French inspired lanes of Luang Prabang - out of control and far too much fun.....would you honestly let us hire anything!?
Luang PrabangAt the top of That Phu Si Temple we encountered 2 young Monks, enjoying the tranquility of the vast view. They loved chatting to us.....and we truly bonded!!

Luang PrebangOn number 9 of about 100 steps leading to 'That Phu Si', a golden temple sitting high on a hill in the middle of the town.
Luang PrabangJoma French Cafe, where we spent every morning sipping lattes and eating chocolate croisants......how Parisienne of us.....early practice for the real thing!!

Adventure DayWe mountain biked for 2 hours through beautiful jungles to this gorgeous waterfall
Adventure DayA refreshing swim in the crisp spring waterfall after a sweaty morning on our bikes....grrrrrrr
Adventure DayIn perfect sync, we paddle off into the distance.....3 hours down the river to Luang Prabang - such a fun time!!
Adventure DayIt's the helmet, isn't it!? It really does it for me.....yeah, I thought so too =)
Vang Vieng4 ladies, little Laos men, and a whoooole lot of rice.......an interesting 7 hour bus ride through majestic mountains to Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng - TubingThe beginning's of a beautiful day.....tubing down the river in Vang Vieng, a must for every traveller!!
Vang Vieng - TubingThere are bars and restaurants dotted all along the river side, boasting huge swings and flying foxes over the river, sure to set up the most fun day you'll ever experience!!
