Happy Monday morning to you all. When we last left you we were just leaving Vang Vieng for the Cultural Capital of Laos.....Luang Prabang. Being the tight (or sensible??!) backpackers that we are we got the local bus (as always or where possible) So we're standing at the bus stop and a man (who we believed to be Vietnamese) tried to tell us "Bus not stop here, go bus station, I take you 5000 kip 1 person" ........ Well hello there! Firstly, I guess I should apologise for the lack of blog in so long. No excuse really, just that things have been a little hectic since we arrived in Laos and also, internet connections aren't what we were used to and in some area's pretty expensive...excuses excuses I hear you all cry! Il est vrai que notre periple a travers la frontiere a demande beaucoup d etapes (train, autobus, motos, camion et camionnette) car ce passage frontalier est loin des routes frequements utilisees, mais ce fut neanmoins fort agreable de penetrer au Laos. Les paysages de montagnes et de vallees profondes sont en effet a couper le souffle. Puis l atmosphere est tellement plus detendue que dans le Nord du Vietnam. On circule sans se faire proposer toutes sortes de choses (You buy from me!). Les habitants sont aussi tres sympathiques. FRANCAIS 01-Sep-2008 to 16-Sep-2008: Langoureux Laos Le son se fait de plus en plus fort. Il peut l'entendre bien avant que les deux ronds de lumieres n'apparaissent au tournant, transpercant la nuit et l'aveuglant. Au meme instant, un coup de klaxon retentit dans ses oreilles. Il ne voit rien, n'entend rien. Et puis ca s'arrete et au loin deux lumieres rouges se fraient un chemin dans le serpentin montagneux. Well everyone, after two days spent in the wild, the boys managed to trek back to civilization to share some Laosian stories with you. But first things first, the north of Thailand and travels into Laos. Jord and Dave flew out of Bangkok to the northern city of Chaing Mai, 1 hour by plane and 14 by bus. Ok ok it was technically 1 city, 1 town and two smaller towns and whilst it's unlikely that this blog will be a box office smash, I thought it was too good a title to miss out on.. My journey to Laos started with a slow boat cruise down the Mekong River from the Thai boarder to a town called Luang Prabang in Northern Laos. It was a slow (two days) and beautiful journey, with lush forest on both sides of the river most of the way and great limestone cliffs increasing the closer we got to Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site and is protected to maintain its old world Asian charm mixed in with the French colonial influence. Net als die reizigersparafrasering van het gezegde dat het gras altijd groener is bij de buren, dat het volgende land altijd net even interessanter is dan het land waarin je je bevindt.
