I crossed into Laos on a long-tail boat. The boat only had 2 passengers, Danny, a British guy and me. We spent the night at the border town of Huay Xai. For dinner we had duck BBQ, which was fantastic. The next morning, we got on a slow boat over Mekong to Luang Prabang. The boat takes 2 days, with a stopover for a night at Pakbeng. Pakbeng ended up a nice enough town. The boat ride is nice and the scenery is stunning. The only thing is that the seats are not very comfortable for such a long ride. The alternative was to take a 12 hour bus, but considering the roads are pretty bad, the boat is a better way to go. Anyways, the whole boat was full of backpackers, so I met quite a few of them. Along the way, the boat made numerous stops to pick up and drop off the locals, some of them traveling with livestock, motorcycles and a dinning room table, which they put on the roof of the boat!
Anyways, next stop - majestic Luang Prabang.
