So the day began with Kalyna losing a toenail. It was pretty gross. I'm waiting to see what falls off next. Then in my feverish delerium, I thought that it would be a great idea to ride a bike uphill in the scorching heat.

Eventually, I almost threw up and the day got better from there. I love Laos. Its so beautiful here, I just wish I had more energy (and less fever) to explore some more! But we just bought out bus tickets for Vang Vieng for 10am tommorow.

We visited a few really pretty wats today(including one of the most important - Wat Xieng Thong, built in the 14th century by the patron of Buddhism, King Setthathirat in the 14th centry), sat by the Mekong, taking pictures of these fishermen until I'm sure they thought we were going to steal their boat and then checked out a handicraft market. All on bikes. I haven't had this much excercise since I was 5. I feel like a kid again, its so great and I even have my little kid dress that Kalyna says makes me look cute. But I'm not cute, I'm vicious or as Tony would say - CARNIVOROUS!

Oh and I think Kalyna is getting an ear infection too because she can't hear out of one ear too. So we're constantly yelling "Heh?" to each other like old people and trying to talk quietly. I can't hear anything out of my right ear!!!!

Laos was under the control of Siam (Thailand) from the late 18th century until the late 19th century when it became part of French Indochina. The Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907 defined the current Lao border with Thailand. In 1975, the Communist Pathe...more info
