Another 6 hour journey between Kanazawa and Ito, again all quite straightforward. Ito is not so far from Tokyo and on the coast, it’s a local seaside resort. Staying in the best hotel room yet at K’s House Onsen, which is a 90 year old ryokan. Our room is spacious, all tatami mats and sliding doors with fold away futons for the night and a low table and cushions in the middle of the room during the day. We have a view over the river which flows not much further into the sea.

Today we did a big walk along the cast called Jogasaki nature reserve. It as a short train from here along the coast and then a four hour walk along the cliff edge. Beautiful seascapes with craggy rocks all formed from lava from the volcano that overlooks from an offshore island. The walk is quite wooded in places and we saw a number of lovely butterflies and birds, including a woodpecker. Beautiful day with clear blue sky and a gentle breeze.

Next a brief stop in Tokyo before going to Mt Fuji.
