Leaving Brisbane
Tired, nervous and about to start our travel. (First time overseas for Amanda)
First stop, Japan!
Travis
We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to business class for the 8 hour flight from Brisbane to Tokyo. There was lovely service and the seats were spacious, which will probably put a dampener on our next flight where we will likely be in cattle class.
Unfortunately I was a bit airsick for the last hour of the flight, which then also carried on over to the hour long train from Narita airport. After meeting Katherine and heading to her place I spent the rest on the night sleeping it off.
Oh, and it's daunting to make your way around Tokyo without knowing any Japanese... even though it is a very English friendly city. I can only guess how difficult it would be for Japanese people to visit Australia where we don't speak their language very much.

Poor Travis :(
From the air it was interesting to see that the different farming areas looked like green pavers. Tokyo is very bright and shiny and at the moment it is also hot (around 30 degrees) and humid which reminds me of Summer in Brisvegas.
After the train

Travis' Steak Dinner
Such a lovely big meal in business class that we thought it best to do a comparison with economy at a later date.
trip from the airport, Travis was pleased to be able to stop moving and get some fresh (well for Tokyo) air. While he was resting, I went out to dinner with Katherine and some of her friends. I was very glad that she was there to help me out with the language and explaining what was in the different dishes. I enjoyed the food and even did well with my chopsticks too! There was a mixture of conversation in Japanese and in English.
I am very thankful that a lot of places have English signs as well. Today we will be exploring some parts of Tokyo, then heading out to Takasaki to visit another friend.

Hello happy travellers :)
Hi Amanda and Travis, Weren't you lucky to be travelling in business class. That is the best looking aeroplane food I've ever seen (except perhaps the unlimited supply of chocolate you get when you fly with Swiss). Anyway Amanda things are going well at work so you aren't allowed to think about work for the next three weeks! The frog has taken over your part of the office and is acting Project Manager until you return... (ie. I won't be doing too much in the documentation department :) Happy travels. Jess
