Take off from Heathrow. After a frantic customs I am hot, sweaty, nervous and tired. I didnt sleep much last night {or the night before} in preparation for my flight. I couldnt find my Valium so had to improvise! Ive got the window seat on the plane, which wouldnt be so bad if i wasnt such a sap and actually liked flying...haha The signs are good. Ive already started a conversation with the Japanese guy next to me, he seems pretty cool. His name is Sasheda and he works in Sales & Marketing. He has been to London on business, trying to seel some dodgy gadget. I comment that "He is one of the bad guys" in a Bill Hicks type way. Thankfully he takes it in the humourous way it was meant to be. I ... read more

Dag 1 Vi ankom Narita flyplass rundt 9:30.

... read more

The night bus from Kyoto to Tokyo Station was pretty smooth. Finding my hostel was a little more challenging, partly because I was exhausted, and partly because the directions written in broken English on the website were not that clear. I tried to book back at first place I stayed at, since at least I knew where that was and it wasn’t far from the train to Narita International Airport, but their dorm rooms were all booked out and the smaller rooms were a little out of my budget. The hostel I’m staying at this time is called Ace Inn and is a capsule hotel in Shinjuku. Someone in Kyoto recommended it to me, and its special because it’s co-ed - most capsule hotels are traditionally male only. I checked in bright and early, but didn’t ... read more

My Japanese friend who had lived in L.A told me only Japan did have wide varieties of snacks. Actually, there are many kinds of and different tastes of snacks in Japan. It is possible for you to eat different flavors of chocolate for two weeks. I want to introduce Japanese Kitkat Tokyo section because it is very special if you compare to other countries. Chocolate in Tokyo might disappoint Europeans because it doesn’t have much cacao and milk flavors. However, chocolate companies in Japan worked hard to sell more chocolate to people because they don’t get used to the flavor. Kitkat created special tastes using Japanese fruits, seasonings and vegetables. It is funny prefectures of Japan have own tastes of Kitkat for souvenirs. Joerg and I found two bags of Kitkat which had strawberry and Kinako ... read more

For the love of Tokyo... Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world. We arrived on the bus (after passing Mount Fuji on the way) and was soon part of the hussle of Tokyo. Coffees will set you back $12 and beers cost a fortune, but somehow all is forgiven here. Shinjuku area is covered with neon lights, tall buildings and hundreds of people walking round. We headed out for our first night out and picked up some Aussies along the way. We headed for a sushi train dinner and had the best sushi in all of Tokyo and for only 100Y a piece. A mixture of raw fish and eggs (Oz!) and we were ready to start drinking. Luckily for us, one of the Australian girls spoke fluent Japanese so we were pretty ... read more

So, last night, in the heart of Tokyo, Maureen and I went fishing----sort of. On the first floor of the Washington Hotel is a wild restaurant called Zauo. We had read about it a while ago and thought it sounded fun and touristy. Last night, we checked it out. You notice a few things when you walk in: first, there's a faux boat in the middle of the restaurant, and said boat is surrounded by water. Second, every table has tiny little fishing poles. Third, no English is spoken or written. The last one of those observations is quite unusual for a tourist spot...It turns out, this was not the overpriced, expat experience we had set out for. The patrons were all locals, and for such an experience, it wasn't ridiculously expensive. We were given a ... read more

Danach ... read more

I have been back a week but I have not slowed down a minute since landing so I decided I had better take some time this weekend and post my travel blog about Tokyo. In one sentence, I must say it was one of the cleanest city with these nicest people! Wow, it was a great trip. I started from Moscow and headed to Frankfurt. When I first started planning my trip, Aeroflot did not run non-stop flights between Moscow and Tokyo. One of the better connections was on Lufthansa through Frankfurt, which would also make for a great short visit to see Jetta, Piage and Liam (sister, niece and nephew). Well, by the time I actually booked the tickets, Aeroflot had direct flights and to mix and match Aeroflot and Lufthansa got to be very ... read more
