Crazy week so far. Tuesday we had 9 bathroom accidents... yes 9! Then Tuesday night Haley and I went to Hardy Barracks an Army base near work. Only thing there was a little store that is run by the same guy that owns the one at our hotel. He saw us there and offered us a ride back to the hotel ... nice because we really didn't want to walk! Kind of fun when people just know who we are now. Yesterday ... Wednesday, we only had 4 accidents but from the same kid - I really don't think he's potty trained (and their suppose to be) because his parents send 5 extra pairs of clothes with him. He knows english too so its not a miscommunication thing. Made alien antennas for the art project (I wore mine to the gate in the morning and the kids thought it was cool - they didn't know that was the project for later ). They loved being aliens. The playground was closed to we went on a walk to a spot that over looked the pond in front of our classroom - told them it was the water on the moon! They saw
Aruki
This arm thing is from a cartoon that they watch all sorts of things, alien fish, a moon bridge, giant moon rocks. Thought it was pretty cool but then we had to go back to planet earth. Started swimming laps Wednesday, man was that hard! Jumped in a lane with an old japanese lady and started swimming, was worried because she kept staring at me - thought she was mad that I was sharing a lane with her. But when I stopped she looked at me and said "Beautiful, Beautiful... You swim beautifully, I wish I could swim like that". Really cute. Last night at about 12:30 Haley yelled my name and I bolted right up from sleep... there was an earthquake! I guess it was a 6.8 at one part of Japan but we were quite a ways away from the center. It was so much fun, my bed felt like a raft floating over waves. Haley and I were laughing... wish I was a little more awake to remember it really well but I remember what it felt like! Today went really well. The past couple of mornings the day camp counselors have been starting to get the kids really early and we found out today that it
was because we're supose to be down there at 8:40 now vs. 8:50. Wish someone would have told us that! Only had 1 accident! I decided to make him go every 1/2 hour😊. Was Nina's last day today (and her twin Lianne who is in the other class) so sad when the kids leave... tomorrow quite a few who have been here the whole summer leave😞. At the gate tonight Sakunoske's mom who usually drives parked on the side after almost everyone was gone and got her son. Then she had someone tell Aimee to go over there (she doesn't speak much english). Aimee called me over, I was really confused and it ended up that she had presents in the back for us! There were 5 huge bags. Wasnt sure what was in them until she handed me a paper that was instuctions on how to wear a kimoni (or the casual version) There were kimono's in the bags! And obi's and shoes!!! I was so excited I about cried.. I don't know if she knew what I was saying but I gave her a hug😊. We're going to take pictures in them and give them to her. At
the gift shop those are about $60!!! And I don't think they're much cheaper any place else! So nice of her. She had asked me a couple of weeks ago how many counselors and I thought she was asking what age of class he was in and I said 4 and 5... and she was confused and said ok so 4 girls... but then I realized it and said no 5 girls. Glad I did! She brought us this treat last week and we thought thats what she kept asking for but man!!! So nice of her! I have to try it on! Swam laps again tonight, Amy T. went swam with me for most of the time. Not so hard tonight and I swam a lot more too! Talked to this guy who was swimming next to me, he works at the Embassy. He was training for a triathalon on sunday - I'd do one, but the only thing is that swimming is the shortest distance and I can hardly do anything else! He was really nice, explained camp to him, and talked about swimming. Just bought a couple drinks from a gas station - one is Calpis (Calpico
in the states - if anyone knows where you can find it.. Please tell me! Its delicious!), the other is Protari Sweat - never had it but one girl today was drinking it and said it wasn't water (it looks like water) so I guess I'll try it. Bought some mochi (also, is there red azuki bean paste - sweet bean paste - in the states?) a pancake with bean paste, and a seaweed rice fish thing. Thought I'd have it for lunch tomorrow but then I remembered that tomorrow is BBQ!
Had a crazy time at the gate this week... kept confusing the kids. Told the panther cub kid to go back up like 5 times when his mom was right there thinking that she was waiting for a day camper. Then another kid was crying at the gate and I thought it was because he didn't want to go to camp (this was tues, so i didn't really know the kids too well). I grabbed him from his mom (because when they're crying we take them and once they are away from their parents they are just fine) who doesn't speak much english and was trying to
take him in and she's finally like no.. guess he was just crying because his big brother went to camp and he didn't want him to leave.. 😊 whoops
