Tokyo Metro
Sleeping sickness, ha ha Last night we went to find somewhere to eat that was not to expensive but authentic. We fell upon this little cafe that was full of Japanese and had to choose what to have from a menu that you could not decipher - but gordon bennett it was fantastic - still don't know what we ate.
Anyway this jet lag thing came in handy today as we needed to get up early to get to the fish market. In the Discover Japan Lonely Planet guide it said you needed to be there by 9am to see the stalls, however, the fish market opened at 5am.
Well we got to the market at 6.30 that meant leaving the hotel shortly before 6am (told you jet lag came in handy). Anyway the book does not tell you about the Tuna auction that you must be there for 5am. They only let 60 spectators in at 5am and 60 spectators at 5.25. The actual market starts at 9am - both Mike and myself not very happy chappies as we had missed the auction and now had time to waste before going back to see the fish market..
Anyway we thought why
Traditional Junk
This is what we thought we booked onto using our fluent Japanese not use the time to find out how to validate our rail passes and also find out the times for the trains to Kyoto our next stop in Japan - so time not lost (see I used by Project Skills by contingency planning - to you and me that means thinking on your feet, ha ha)
I have got to let you into a secret the metro system here seems to be a sleeping metro it is hilarious. Everyone gets on the metro and immediately falls asleep and they do not need to be sitting down they even sleep standing up. I cheekily took a photo of 4 men sitting opposite me 3 of which were asleep - Mike went mad at me when my camera flashed and they all jumped up wondering what the hell had just happened.
We went back to the fish market and risked life and limb dodging the electric carts use for moving fish that come at you from all directions. The fish market is amazing but did not see full tuna fish as they had already been cut up - trying to talk Mike into getting up early tomoz so I can
Actual Boat
This is what we actually booked - need to polish our Japanese hand signals, ha ha see the Tuna auction - still working on it as we speak (and will post you pics).
We fell across the World Trade Center and noticed it had an observatory on the 40th floor - the views were unbelievable and we were the only people up there.
After this decided to do a boat trip around Tokyo Bay. We saw this fantastic Junk and thought this is for us, so in our fluent Japanese i.e point and make hand signals we ordered return tickets. That is what we thought until we got down to the jetty and ended up on a brand new boring flat boat with a millon OAPs (Oops forgot Mike is a pensioner, ha ha). Anyway thing about it, he did fit in well, ha ha.
We are now back at the hotel having a siesta, hope all is well reading this - love to hear from you all.
