Time was running out.

To be more precise, the snow was melting - a month earlier than usual. As it turned out, the three weeks I was enjoying summer back home turned out to be ideal snowboarding time, thanks to heavy snowfalls.

The problem was, there was still something I wanted to try doing - I still hadn’t been snowboarding at night.

So that’s how we came to be travelling down highway 9 in Shimane, heading for Mizuho Highland skifield. Even so, because it was the tailend of the season, it wasn’t confirmed until about 3pm on the day whether or not the night session would even go ahead.

When we phoned the skifield and were told preparations for the night session were being made, all three of us started cheering.

I wish I had been able to take photos which really show how beautiful it was at Mizuho Highland that day. On our first ride up one of the chairlifts the scenery was like something off a postcard.

I may never get to go snowboarding at Mizuho Highland again, but I won’t forget my first time night snowboarding.

Sometime…….somewhere……..

トワイライトゾーンへの旅

時間がなくなっていっていた。もっと正確にいうと、通常より、一か月も早く、雪が溶けていた。結局、私が帰国して夏の生活を楽しんでいた３週間は大雪のためスノーボードの理想時間になってしまった。

問題は、まだしてみたかったことがあった事だった。まだナイターで、スノーボードの経験が、なかった。

私たちは、島根の国道９号線で、瑞穂ハイランドスキー場に向かった。シーズンの終わる時期だったので、その日のナイターがあるかどうか、当日の三時ごろまで、わからなかった。

スキー場に電話したら、ナイターの準備ができたと聞いて、三人は大喜びした。

その日の瑞穂ハイランドの、美しい光景を、そのまま写真に収めることができたらよかったが、なかなか写真では伝わりきれなくて、残念だ。最初にリフトに乗ったときに見た景色は、絵葉書の様な光景だった。

もう二度と瑞穂ハイランドで、スノーボードをする事がないかもしれないが、初ナイターの経験を忘れることはないだろう。
