Hidden ShrineThis little Taoist shrine was tucked away between two buildings near our hostel.
We headed down to Kyoto by night bus after a few days in Tokyo. This was one horrible night. We we're cramped into two tiny seats in the front of the bus and didn't get much sleep at all. When we arrived it was raining and we walked around for forty-five minutes looking for our hostel. Once there we crashed on the couches until our rooms were ready.
Kyoto's weather got better and we went out to see what was going on. Kyoto had more of a laid back feeling than Tokyo. We spent more time in quiet places and admiring temples and art. Some of the shrines are very peaceful and beautiful in Kyoto, often tucked away between two buildings, they can be easy to miss. We also took in an exhibit at a museum that featured historic swords from Japan's more famous temples.
We had more fun times with the people at our hostel and probably stayed up a little to late each night. The hostel even rented bikes. However, due to seat complications resulting from a way to small bike, Chris was unable to ride. So we walked.
Temple RoofWe wondered into a temple, only to find that it was closing time and we we're escorted out. It was a wonderful peaceful place.
We went to a palace but it was closed, so we wondered around the town until we found Miss Lucky. This little pork cutlet restaurant had some of the best food we had in all of Japan. It was ran by a silly old man who was very happy to have us and even took our picture with Miss Lucky herself.
After some Lucky pork we walked around the Geisha district of Kyoto looking for some sweet photo ops. We say one Geisha walking down a quiet little ally filled full of small saki bars. No time to snap a photo though as she darted away to fast. It was one of or best moments from Japan. All in all Kyoto was a great place, we would love to have spent more than the three days we had there.
Inside the TempleThese are placards and lanterns that hang inside one of the small shrines at the temple.
Big ol' BellThis is a large bell that hung near one of the museums. The Japanese created these large bells for ringing.
Pretty FishThis koi swims outside of the museum we went to.
DoorwayHere we see a cozy Kyoto doorway equipped with bicycle.
