Today was our first serious encounter with the Tokyo rail system,. It is incredibly efficient, well-organised and USEFUL (ACTION buses we're looking at you). It's also pretty easy to navigate and only occasionally confusing! Tess' awesome, super advanced three word Japanese conversation with a nice young woman at the platform ("Excuse me..." "" "Arigato!") got us on the right train and about an hour later, to Nihon Minka-en in Kawasaki City. Nihon Minkaen is the' Japanese Open-Air Folk House Museum' (now you see why we're using the Japanese name!). It's made up of 23 traditional houses (and a few other structures like a water mill, boatmen's shed etc) dating from the 1600s to very early 1900s, which have been relocated from all over Japan to a section of beaut... read more

One national holiday I done climbed a mountain... it was some public holiday, I've forgotten which one, and so I went and climbed a mountain with the devestators and some of their work mates. We arrived rather late and at Ikebukuro (somehow, in this massive station I found the guys extremly easily, just walked down the 1st set of stairs and there they were, not bad for 2nd busiest station in Tokyo), the back to Shinjuku (the busiest in the world/Tokyo) and from there headed out west. Somehow mid journey organised a rendez-vous with Alex who still didn't 'keitai ga arimasu' yet at The Chof' and we continued on. As it was autumn and a public holiday, half of Tokyo also decided to climb Takau, and the train was crowded. The mountain though was wonderful, there ... read more

Keiyo University Festival One weekend I met up with an old friend from the old place, Satomi. She showed me around as a kind of guide for parts of Tokyo. Neither of us live here, but we're just the next city over each, so no biggie. our destination: Keiyo University. Rumoured to be amongst the most prestigious of the Tokyo private universities (and with its 1st year campus just a stones throw in Hiyoshi from me) me met up and headed in. I was rather hung over as I had been to the all you can drink nightclub the night before for the 1st time. (in fact I had returned home sometime after sunrise caught a few hours sleep and was already back awake before some of my companions returned home, they had spent a lot ... read more

So far.... Japan, so far its been 2 months, and finally I am writing that blog I wanted. I want to try to remember everything but will do my best. Left on October the 15th or so, around then. I had a month of prior to that, and basically since I left work (no fault to the job) my life and everyday has been fantastic, I don't think I've had a bad day since September when I quit, to paraphrase and change Office Space "Everyday just keeps getting better, so everytime you see me its the best day of my life". Its not quite that good but it is definately a lot of fun!!!!! After my final party and a few more days I headed off to the airport and (via Taiwan) arrived in Tokyo, Japan!! ... read more
