KaraokeMe, Scotty, David, Daniel, Peter and Chrystian with our drinks. Happy happy
Its spring in Japan at the moment and the average temperature is 16 degrees- I can't imagine how I will feel when it gets to winter here, it snows!! I will freeze off my caca. But lucky, Im one of the only ones here who isn't sick at the moment hence my blogging at 2:44pm in the afternoon as everywhere is either dead to the world or out at class meetings.
I have been placed in Class A so i dont have meetings until Monday which is fab. Though I am really procrastinating. I should be upstairs in my warm room practicing a speech. I was asked yesterday by the International institute to do a 3 minutes speech on behalf of Australia at Gifu University's Opening Ceremony tomorrow. Thank god I am only required to do it in English so I am ready!!
Anyway... so what else have I been up to?
Karaoke at down town Gifu- Us kids stayed here until the wee hours of the morning singing great hits like: Im a bitch by Mereidth Brooks, Yellow submarine, I dont wanna miss a thing -Aerosmith and good ol Sinatra. Japanese karoke is really
KaraokeThe sweedes screaming I don't wanna miss a thing-Aerosmith
cool. They think of everything! There is a firdge to keep your drinks nice and cool, central heating, comfy comfy chairs and even a massage chair in case you get too exhausted after singing karoke. Because karoke is free after 12pm, this place gets so packed- it almost feels like im in Tokyo!
Shopping at Malera- We biked to Gifu's largest shopping centre which is 45 minutes away. It was so pictureesque and calming biking along the backstreets of Gifu, nice and quiet and completely different to the hustle and bustle of my love, Sydney. The current fashion in Gifu is pretty meh but the lingerie is interesting! I have never seen so many frilly bras and undies in my life- all prerequisitely filled with at least 5 cm width of padding. I for one, am so glad I bought new sets from back home. There are so many with feathers! diamantes! bows!frills! Its a wonder how Japanese girls can stand up in them. Upon feeling them, I can imagine it would be ike having giant pillows strapped to the chest. Anyway I had too much fun shopping. But I can justify it because although
my luggae was 45 kgs, i didnt bring enough warm clothes!
So I bought:
-3 tops
- 2 cardigans
- 4 pairs of shoes
-many 100 yen goodies
Gifu University's open day for freshmans- This day was particularly hilarious, the clubs were out in force that day in Gifu Oval. There were cheerleaders, people dressed up as sharks, baseball players, basketball players, swimmers, band people, art people, hang gliders all out in force. We were there to help Akina, the leader of the Foreigners club (ryugaku love club) and also Peter's girlfriend. On that day, the freshmans were due to come to Gifu university for orientation ceremony. So upon the arrival of each bus, freshmans poured out and the dressed up club members all swarmed them like bees. I saw one girl with papers higher than her head. It was really interesting how passive the Japanese freshmans were- I saw one band club member chase one of the freshmans into a building waving his handouts high above his head like a banshee.
Archery- Chrystian, Scotty and I eventually persuaded the archery club to let us have a go at their bows.
Well well, I think I have found a new love. It was so great pulling the bow taut and popping balloons (I got in in 3 trys! Best ever!). Felt like Xena the warrior princess! Was sooo much fun. There is apparently a horse stable on our campus as well. I might try to do that too. Lots of good fun here in Gifu!
Gymnasium- The gymnasium here is amazing. There are at leats 6 trampolines, high beams, poles and everything else you could think of in the gym. Brings back my early childhood memories as a potential gymnast. And what I liked too was it was totally empty. Me and Chrystian had a few too many happy snaps on the trampolines.
Japanese SwimwearExciting stuff! I wonder what they would think of Aussie triangle bikinis? I found the pool yesterday its huge! So might do a test run in mine and note reactions :)
ShoppingSo.. I thought my shoe fetish had died but here are 4 pairs of shoes I have bought in the past 3 days. shhh
Archery Chrystian and I pre-archery shotting

ArcheryScotty shooting his little heart out. He only popped the balloons after 8 trys!
