It's a bit hard to write about what's been happening in Trawangan since last friday. A lot but not much really.. if that makes any sense at all.
Where shall I start.. I think on the last blog I forgot to mention we met Cath again at Rudy's pub. She had been on the island for a few days and had been diving in the meantime. As we were catching up, she told us about the snorkeling tour she went on to see seaturtles and recommended us to do the same. "Sounds good" we thought, so we planned to go the next day.
Anyway,
fridaynight we went to Rudy's party and met some of the other people on the island including 2 cool lads from the UK, Trimm and Marty. Shame Cath didn't come cause the party was good fun. Somehow I got a bit off my head drinking one too many Arak Attack and the next thing I knew Marty was teaching me how to Morris dance. Weird little dance ! I think it's a bit like the swiss lederhosen type of dancing mixed with some Irish jig, but at a demented pace. That's what I got from
Beach at Bamboo BungalowsWhere we went snorkeling. Was quite difficult to walk through the coral the first time we went in because of the low tide.
Marty's demonstration anyway. But whatever it was, I think we must've looked like two idiots on that dancefloor. LOL. Luckily we stopped on time.
What happened after that was a bit of a blur but Trimm and Elle dissapeared. After a while Trimm came back looking like a drowned rat. Apparently he and a few others had crashed the pool at Dive Indonesia next door so we continued the party there. Good times were had till everyone got prune fingers, so then Marty and I decided to go home, but not before I invited half the island to join us on the snorkeling tour the next day. Clearly I was still a bit sloshed. We found Elle on the way home and I realized then, as she was the moneykeeper, that I forgot to pay at Rudy's. Not a problem for them boys, they said we can pay the next evening. How nice is that ? Would never happen in Europe.
Saturday morning I was really glad nobody took me seriously about the snorkeling trip as I didn't fancy going anymore. The sea was a bit too choppy for my liking and we could even see big swells
North beachIt's hard to see in this pic, but you can actually spot Mount Agung towering over Bali from here.
in the distance. So not for me, thanks. So off to Rudy's beruga's we went to catch up on the readings. In the evening Elle and Cath went to see the new Brad Pitt flick 'Babel', and I went to see 'Nacho Libre' with Marty. It was a lazy day, but perfect in a sense.
On
sunday I convinced Marty to go snorkeling with us as I really wanted to see turtles. Well, it's not like he had a choice as I was really persistent and basically almost nagged his ears off. We went to the north beach and settled in one of the beruga's at Bamboo bungalows. It was rather difficult to get into the water as it was low tide so we had to walk quite a bit through rocks and dead coral to reach a reasonable depth to plunge into. At this point my ankle was still hurting and I had to be careful not to cut my feet on the coral. Once we got in though it was just gorgeous. The water was proper clear and there were loads of colourful fishes, it was as if we were swimming in a fishtank. We didn't see
a turtle but over lunch the Bamboo owner told us to get in the water again around 4 as by then it would be high tide and the turtles would come to feed near the shore. So around 4pm Marty and I left Elle to read and went back in the water. This time we were lucky and saw 2 hawksbill turtles. Yay ! We even saw a triggerfish but stayed well away from the bugger cause they're known to be aggressive. In the evening the 3 of us had a great meal at the rather upmarket 'Beachhouse' and caught up with Trimm and the others at Rudy's afterwards.
As for
monday, which is today, we haven't done much yet except doing absolutely nothing on the beach with the lads. Trimm was going to look for another place to stay cause his room had become a battle ground for armies of frantic ants and Marty was 'definitely' going for a dive today, or so he said, but none of them got beyond good intentions. That's how lazy this island gets us. The few things you
can do, you end up
not doing cause the beach is just too inviting.
Cath is moving on tomorrow so she's joining us one last time at the Blue Marlin houseparty tonight. It's been a few days since the last party so we're sort of looking forward to it.
Initially our plan was to stay for about 4 days in Trawangan and head to Bali again today, but Elle and I are really enjoying the relaxed atmosphere here so we decided to stay a few days longer. Our current plan is to be here until Wednesday and see what happens then.
More on the island life later.
Us 2Don't we just look like the life of the party ?
