Tsunami deer?I tried to ask a guy where they came from but man they speak too fast to understand.
Ok well I made it to Jakarta, all the way across Java without getting myself killed! However when we were in Pangandaran, where a month ago they had that brutal tsunami, there was an earthquake. Nothing too major, a 5.1 on the richter scale. I was sitting on our balcony at around 10pm drinking tea and all the sudden it felt like someone had grabbed my chair and started shaking it. I knew what it was right away because I had felt an earthquake years ago in Mexico. The crappy part was that this earthquake was offshore. Again. And our hotel was about 200 yards from the beach. So all we hear after a few seconds is hundreds of motorbikes fleeing the area. The staff guy from our hotel took us out to the nearest road and we just kinda waited. There were loud instructions on the mosque loudspeakers telling people to meet at the mosque. Not really my style, so I just sat and waited to hear whether a tsumani was detected. After a while the village leader announced that there was no tsunami coming, but the locals were still so traumatized from the last one that most of them

went up to the mountains to sleep for the night. (everyone I met had someone die in the last one) I just had this sense that nothing would become of it so I wasn't stressing about it. I decided to have a few beers and go to bed. The next few days were nice and we rode around a motorbike looking for some cool locations. It was amazing. We took a boat cruise down a river (Green Canyon) and then swam up a bit and jumped from a really high, super scary cliff into the river. We also found a place thanks to our good pal Bowo (one of those guys that you don't really know if he works at the hotel, but he's always just kinda there). A guy named Iep worked there and Bowo was his best friend. Anyways, these guys were hilarious and they just kinda hung out with us the whole time. They were bored because no more tourists go to Pangandaran after the tsunami, and they were sad to see us leave yesterday.
Anyways, Bowo told us about this cave with water flowing out into a waterfall. Good spot for swimming. He made us a

map and we found it with the help of some nice villagers. I mean, people here were really nice. I just kept thinking about the kids in Lombok swinging sticks at us and wondering what the difference was. They love us here! It sure makes you fell more comfortabe, and makes touring around more enjoyable.
Rhiannon got pretty sick and went to the doctor after a couple days. She thought she was dying. Turns out, the doc says she has Typhoid fever. I think you get that from contaminated food or water, but I seem to be fine. I got the typhoid immunization before I came travelling. So anyways, damn it that sucks. She's pretty sick and we don't have much time left in Indonesia. She toughed it out and made the 10 hour bus ride to Jakarta overnight but she could barely move in the morning. So we'll see what happens. I guess if worse comes to worse I might have to move on an have her meet me in Sumatra later on if she is too sick. Smatra is huuuuuge, and bus rides are going to be brutal.
Enjoy the pics guys.
Treasure huntersThe locals are still scouring the beach for valuables.
This spot wasn't hit the worst. I sawn some spots where even the trees didn't make it.
Disco DancerThere were monkeys on the beach and I was showing them some sweet moves.
Green CanyonFrom here on we had to swim. The water was nice!
Bowo's spotOur surfer-dude pal told us abot this place.
Cave. I've seen many caves but this is my.....hmmmm....maybe my second favorite.
Of course there's me ruining the beauty of it again.
In his own words: "Bowo good cook."This is the crazy guy Bowo barbecuing up the best chicken I've had. They brag around here about their Ayam Kampung,'village chicken', and with good cause. Iep went to his house and killed it and we
