Hello all, sorry for the delay in loggs we are experincing some computer meltdowns! We have finished our first stay in Bali in legian just outside of Kuta. The hotel was a large , glamorous if slightly past its best affair. We did have the luxury of aircon, a swimming pool and free breakfast! I know we have made the transition into travellers when our eyes lightup at the thought of an all you can eat buffet breakfast! We ate a range of fresh fruit, spicy rice, noodles and rediculous amounts of french toast. we saw fit to pile our plates high, afterall it was free...though i think to the dismay of other holidaymakers! The beach was great, lined with beautiful palm trees and white sands and with the most tremendous waves you have ever seen. ... read more

Published: June 11th 2006Asia » Indonesia » Bali » KutaMy trip up from 'Nam up to Hong Kong was certainly not the easiest or most pleasant experience so I decided to speed through it and do it all in one mass journey that took 2 1/2 days. Arriving in Hong Kong was nice and familiar and made the most of all the cheapies I had learned last time there and did a bit of space walking before heading down to Indonesia namely Bali and Lombok. I decided to head straight to lombok and have a couple of days there staying in Singgigi a little beach town, kinda wish i hadn't bothered.certainly not the best beach in the world and the lack of tourists means you get hassled for everything all the time. you also get a lot of hassle of the local men as due ... read more

After coming back from the Gili's I intended to only stay in Kuta for 1 day to organise myself and then head off to Java. One thing led to another and I have now been here for something like 6days! I was due to arrive in Yogyakarta the day of the earthquake but made a last minute decision to stay an extra day so I could do a rafting trip. Thank god I did because last time I checked there were 200,000 people homeless and the number of dead was around 5400 with 20,000 injured! So I've now stayed until the 31st and I'll be flying direct to Jakarta where I'll just connect with a flight to KL. The rafting trip turned out to be much less than promised but was still good fun and there ... read more
En route to Bali I had a rather unpleasant encounter with a guy in the mens toilets who left no doubt in my mind that he was making indecent proposals. What is it with all the gay people suddenly!? That was three already in less than two weeks. On the way I also had to stop in Jakarta and wait for a while to catch my connecting flight to Bali. After about 4-6 hours or something silly like that I went to check in only to find that for some reason I had bought, instead of an onward ticket to Bali, a ticket all the way back to Padang!! Aaarrgh! I was not a happy bunny and convinced that it was their fault and not mine (of course...) I had no choice but to buy another ... read more
Returned from Gili to Kuta. Stayed in small hotel directly in Kuta, nice, but no Conrad! Mind, for $23 per night with air, who can complain?! Anyway, I do have a complaint, while there were nice dinners and fun beaching, this is where my trip turned a little dark... I was in a motorcycle accident. It started with a really nice night out with Steph and Sally... we had an excellent meal at Ku De Ta. The place is stunning, really nice. If you get there early enough you can catch the most amazing sunsets! Anyway, most of the pics in this article are from that dinner. The last pic (warning for the squeamish -- yes Lucy, that means you! -- is a pic of the wound on the back of my head....) And with that, ... read more
Traveling is magical. It's as simple as that! Just when you think you have hit your enjoyment threshold, you realize there is just so much more enjoyment and excitement to be had. After having a sensational time in Perth (oh and yes, we did rent bikes on Rottnest Island and spent the day riding around the entire 28K circumference), we flew to Bali, an island in Indonesia. Just to remind you of life as a backpacker...here are a few... You know you are a backpacker when... -You leave a hotel costing $14/night for a hotel costing $7/night so that your travel money can go further! -You learn to use a scarf as a headband, a belt, and even a towel if you so need! -You wonder what day of the week it is, and even sometimes ... read more
Hi people! Well, this is the final blog coming from Bali. 10 weeks has gone so quickly.....we have seen so much, done some wicked things...
