Christmas in Paradise? Maybe not, I’ll explain….
Christmas Eve We had planned to go to class this morning. The limited schedule of Yoga meant that instead of 4 classes to choose from we had only 2. The first, and the one we really wanted to do was 10:15 am. However I awoke prior to the alarm as after spending nearly 4 months on the road, and making it two weeks into our 8th Asian country, I finally succumbed to Delhi Belly (or should that be Bali belly?)
After 4 visits to the bathroom, I managed to drop Lou off at Yoga so she could go, and make it back to the flat in one piece.
Some light snoozing, a few more trips to the bathroom and a bit of TV and the 1.5hour class soupled with the walk home had elapsed and Lou was back. The new iPad was still captivating our attention and as such we continued to utilise the internet to update/download new content for the gizmo. This was somewhat frustrating as the internet was having a bad day here, and basically preventing us from doing anything.
Lou suggested we go out
to use the internet somewhere else and maybe have afternoon tea. Despite feeling pretty bad, I agreed (such a trooper) and off we went to Warung Eropa, a place we had previously visited for the exact same reason. We sat and drank tea for a while whilst achieving little online, and indeed stayed so long that it started to get dark and Lou got hungry again.
She had some dinner whilst I had some more peppermint tea (good for the stomach) and we finally left to head home. We had successfully wiled away the whole day achieving very little.
I had managed two pots of peppermint tea and a few glasses of water, and about 3 slices of dry toast all day, most of which wasn’t still within me. Certainly a very different Christmas Eve to the normal booze, and stressful last minute shopping and wrapping experience at home.
Christmas Day Having had a poor nights sleep waking up to run to the toilet more than once, I was a touch sluggish in the morning. Lou on the other hand had wanted to go to Yoga. I explained that I wasn’t going and didn’t
Mie Goreng
Christmas eve fried noodles really want to drive either as I was getting worse not better.
Ultimately the time for the morning class passed with neither of us attending, but Lou still had her sights set on the afternoon class, if she could. There was no chance of me doing a yoga class, and little of even being up to driving. As the lunchtime passed I wasn’t eating or drinking anything and still having frequent trips to the toilet, so it became apparent that driving was not going to happen. This meant that as Lou wanted to utilise the laptop to speak to her parents, at a time approaching the class time that ultimately we spent a yoga free day. Lou spoke to her folks by taking the laptop to the pool area for better reception, whilst I stayed in bed with stomach cramps and feeling pretty awful.
I dragged myself out of bed briefly to say hi to my folks at home, where it appears the Christmas curse has also struck with my dad falling over and badly damaging his knee to the point he is now awaiting an operation to sort it out!
We finished off our day at
home watching TV. We had planned to go out and have a nice meal so had very little in the fridge to eat - so much so that Lou’s Christmas dinner was a pot of instant noodles! (I wasn’t eating)
A very different Christmas in more ways than one, no food, no drink, no presents, a hot country, being ill. Very memorable but I’m not sure for the right reasons.
