First of all, I Looooove everyone's wonderful comments and e-mails. Keep them coming! I really appreciate having such amazing family and friends!!! So the $ is now back in my account:-) yay! Which is a good thing, because I missed the minor detail of needing a visa to get into India, so I'll need that money to get an expedited visa. And I'll need a passport to get that, which I have lost. And I'll need a birth certificate to get that, which I don't have. But not to worry, I have a plan. My mommy is sending me a birth [View Full Entry]

Amma's Ashram Asia » India » Kerala » Kozencherry
I got up a little late on Saturday morning and took the 12:15 train to Kayankulam to get to Amma's. It was about a twenty minute ride. From there I took a rickshaw for about a half an hour, to a traditional ferry (a dugout canoe). A short ferry ride later, I arrived at the ashram. It's a collection of pink buildings on a narrow stretch of land between a river and the Indian Ocean. After checking in, I went up to my room to get settled in. I was sharing what couldn't have been more than an 8 ft. by [View Full Entry]

It may have been soft but not without a lot of pain. After swilling far too many beers with Will and Sophie et al. in Bangkok we got up bleary-eyed with throbbing heads and late for the airport to catch our long awaited flight to India. We need not have hurried. Within minutes of getting in the cab we hit the dreaded Bangkok traffic. At 8am it took more than an hour just to get to the airport expressway. A drive that usually takes about 20 minutes when it's not peak time. Once there we had to stand in an infernally [View Full Entry]

Namaste (<-- that means hello in hindi) Greetings from Agra! After much anticipation...we have just returned from the Taj Mahal! The experience was grand! Eveywhere we go we are treated like movie stars...children come to greet us...people want their photos taken with us...it is all a bit surreal. The Taj was splendid and although I we are only able to see the grand monument once (Kristi tragically we are only able to see the Taj in the late afternoon before we depart early tomorrow morning, but thanks for all your grand suggestions!) the event is one I am sure I shall [View Full Entry]

perhaps, the truest of nature lies at the deepest of the jungles. and this very thought drove us to the bandipur forest; we started from bangalore at the wee hours of morning. after driving 230 kms, (taking a single stop at maddur for breakfast) we reached our destination, bandipur. located at the foothills of mysore-ooty highway, the place is a beauty with lush green and that drove us wild. from badipur we drove another few kilometers to our cottage, 'tiger ranch'. this private cottage is at the heart of deep forest. with about 8 private huts, the cottage provides you with [View Full Entry]

THings here in India are wet but Ive kinda got used to that, Ive got used to my clothes not drying so far, Ive even just recently got used to the loud noises while I try to get to sleep, but Im still getting over the idea of people coming into our room at 11pm and turning on the light. random thoughts by mbaade. rather melancholy tonight; angsty today. don't really want to leave G to the O to the A.... i like not having any responsibilities or anyone to answer to or anything to do except play on the beach, watch tv, go for long walks, read for pleasure, sleep, eat, play backgammon, and flirt with the mafia. goa has made me fall in love with the monsoon. paradise to ourselves. lush emerald jungle, black & gold sand, red rock. went and said goodbye to the arabian sea tonight. today it didn't rain at all; partly cloudy skies. between the [View Full Entry]

Temple Day Asia » India » Kerala » Kozencherry
So it turns out the flood was a complete non-event, at least for us. A few houses in the village were flooded, as were a few roads, and school was closed. However, the water didn't come anywhere near our part of the village, so there really wasn't anything to worry about. In the last few days we've been having movie night every evening, and I've found some really good movies that I think even Dad will like. Also, this morning I went with Sumitra (who works in the office) and Danyia (who teaches dance) to the temple, and had the full [View Full Entry]

My first travel blog entry! I’m so excited! I’ll be in India from August 9 through September 5 to study homeopathy. My plan was to observe a doctor in clinical practice in Mumbai, but last week in Mumbai they had the most rainfall at one time in the history of India, complete with flooding, power outages, and water shortages. I was nervous at first, but I got over it. Then it rained again and clean-up has been quite slow and the death count high. Even though I'm not worried anymore (maybe I have no concept of the reality there!), my parents [View Full Entry]
