Hello everyone!!! I'm back in Delhi now, and I don't have much time to write because I'm going to head over to Connaught Place (supposedly the tourist epicenter of Delhi, but I haven't made it there yet!) with this French couple who just landed in India this morning. It's funny because I haven't been here long, but I feel like I can show them the ropes, a bit;-) I'm looking forward to relaxing in an air-conditioned restaurant and writing some post cards, then maybe I'll hang out with the cool Indian women I met yesterday. I will try to write a [View Full Entry]

I MADE IT! Asia » India » National Capital Territory » New Delhi
Well folks I made it here! After an 18hr flight and much sleep in my hotel I have taken my first motorized taxi thingy to Connaught Place...shit I think that is what you call it. I took a walk about where my holet GOOD TIMES is located yesterday...nothing but car stuff everywhere...carborator shop, muffler shop with a tonne of mufflers just waiting for an owner, indian auto accessories shop, car seat cover shop...it goes on. The shop really is just like an open stall with about 10 men hanging around. Surprisingly I was not harassed...only asked for money once and told [View Full Entry]

Varanasi Asia » India » Uttar Pradesh » Varanasi
On our way to India, we stopped at Lumbini, the supposed birth place of Buddha. Then, for some reason, we decided to purchase bus tickets and train tickets for India on the Nepal side of the border. Not sure what I was thinking, but as you can imagine, once we finally made it into India, we got scammed and had to pay an additional $6 to get our tickets. To make matters worse, it was very hot, our bags were heavy, the bus was packed with people and it took 3 house to get to the train station. Tired, ticked off [View Full Entry]

India!

Hello everyone! Since my last entry, a ridiculous amount of things have happened (finally!), and I am currently in Varanasi, which I can't describe better than Mark Twain did: "Older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together." But I'm going to start from where I left you in McLeod Ganj and work forward. I took a taxi from McLeod Ganj to Pathenkot, a dusty little town, and then waited several hours for my train to come (the man who booked my ticket told me I didn't need to [View Full Entry]

Avoiding the Water
Bye!
Nightly Puja

Hello again:-D After yesterday's craziness, I figured that for my well-being physically and mentally/emotionally, I better stay somewhere nice, pronto. Air conditioning was mandatory and that is only guaranteed, from what the gentleman at my old hotel told me, at two places: The Taj and Clarks. I ended up at Clarks, after a long-ride of yet another driver trying to take me to a "cheaper and better" hotel. He then wanted to be my driver for the day, which I declined, and he was very upset that I didn't want to make use of the half-day of shopping Clarks had included [View Full Entry]

So if you're planning on going to India here is my checklist of what i'm going to need before I leave. 1. 2 Passport photos (for visa) 2. Tourist Visa 3. Travel Insurance 4. Vaccinations 5. India rail pass 6. digital camera gizmos 7. At least one set of india appropriate travelling clothes (the last thing I want to do is stick out like a sour thumb at the airport) 8. combination lock (for room doors, apparently the ones we have are better then the ones you can buy there) 9. Des nouvelles!!!!! Asia » India » Uttarakhand » Rishikesh
[View Full Entry]
