Phew!!! We did it. Survived ten and a half weeks in India and came out with no Delhi Belly and relatively unscathed. The travelling scars are quickly fading and we have huge smiles on our faces after arriving back in Thailand and getting Thai curries again. We've been dreaming about them for the last month or so. From Rajasthan, we started the long - very long - journey right down the whole of the West Coast to Kanniyakamuri on India's Southern tip. Definitely an adventure. We used planes, we used many trains, we had a hilarious (insane at the time) bus [View Full Entry]

not about India or Nepal, but I wanted to post it anyway: http://hrw.org/english/docs/2005/09/17/china11754.htm The incident occurred during a heightened security alert before September 1, when China celebrated the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region. “Given the poor treatment often meted out to Tibetans in detention, we are very concerned about Sonam’s physical condition.” also, a very vivid website: www.guchusum.org http://studentsforafreetibet.org/downloads/BombardierCartoon.pdf [View Full Entry]

Lame title I know. It was going to be Mumbai, da da Mumbai, do do do do Mumbai, da da doo. Yeah, yeah. But only me and operators would know how I like to twist song lyrics up. Plus I thought I would be normal for a change and try this approach to getting on the front page of travelblog.org, heh. From Doha the plane wasn’t as good as the previous one, but the food and the company was better. I was next to a Russian guy called Alex and his Turkish wife, they were off to India to practice yoga [View Full Entry]

Namaste! I would just like to thank all of you, my family and friends (and maybe some strangers) who read this log of my thoughts while I am away. It really means the world to know that someone is keeping track of me (hehe) and, more importantly, that you are allowing me to share my experience with you. I realize that I don't update half as often as I originally intended. I guess a major reason for this is that sometimes, there are just no words. Daily, I am inundated with new sites, scents, tastes, smells, and feelings; I continuously grapple [View Full Entry]

Ahhh.....I finally reached the beach and oh, so nice. On the flight from Delhi to Goa, I met up with some Israelis girls (go figure) who told me I should go to Arambol beach in the north. Since i did not have a plan, i said OK. Funny how life works out because as I stroll onto the beach with my backpack in search of a place to stay, i hear someone yell "Larry". It turns out to be Malte, my German friend I traveled with from Pushkar to Jodhpur! I spent the next few days enjoying the wonderful beach of [View Full Entry]

I took the overnight bus from Udaipur with two girls (they chose to go with a twin sleeper and I got the first regular seat). After spending so much time in smaller cities, it was a bit of a shock getting to Delhi. We immediately went to the Main Bazaar area to secure a hotel (Palace Hotel...but I end up switching the next day to the My Hotel which is down the street). The frist thing I noticed about Delhi's Main Bazaar area is how many Israeli's there were. They are EVERYWHERE. Even the signs for some shops are in Hebrew [View Full Entry]

This trip is with Murray’s Uncle Peter and family to see places that are important in the McKenzie Family history. DELHI. We arrive in Delhi late Saturday night, and manage to get through the airport without too much trouble. At the exit we are assigned an official taxi number by the authorities. Once outside, Dehli madness begins. Murray is mobbed by taxi drivers, while a gang of porters wrench the baggage trolley out of my hands. Murray starts yelling at me to not let go [View Full Entry]

Shopping at Old Delhi.

Have managed to find an Internet connection at last - seems like ages since I last wrote in Udaipur. I'm in a very basic Internet cafe in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal. I haven't seen it yet but we are getting a rickshaw there for 6am tomorrow morning for sunrise. I can't wait and probably won't be able to sleep tonight, the suspense is too much. Well, India is just absolutely crazy beyond belief. I think it has to be the best place in the whole world. Everytime I put my camera away I have to get it straight out [View Full Entry]
