Sikh Temple Asia » India » Punjab » Amritsar
This was really just a quick stop in order to see the Temple and apart from that there is not really much else to attract tourists (maybe shopping). Accommodation is rather expensive as they know tourists don’t really stay on a long term basis here, well not if they have eyes and ears. Its your usual bustling Indian town/city, hot, with plenty of noise and dust with the only real solace from this being either the temple or your hotel room. There are some nice architectural buildings in amongst the concrete and neon signs but I think they are not being [View Full Entry]

Amritsar
Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple)

First impressions of Haridwar, nice and quiet. Got on a bike with a passenger seat at the back to Hotel Alpana, no helmet! Driver was very friendly. Alpana is expensive but clean, polite staff. Hardiwar is more peaceful than Delhi and has a religious vibe but compared to Stoke it’s chaotic. I walked up a steep hill, for 2 miles to the Mansa Devi temple, wish-fulfilling goddess. Beautiful views from the hill. Monkeys are on either side of the trail, trying to steal bags they mistaken for food off the pilgrims. To enter the temple I had to take off my [View Full Entry]

Back in LA Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jodhpur
Thanks for your interest. Again, it's totally optional. Flew into LA yesterday morning from Ft Lauderdale. It is really cool to be back in LA...I've seen so many people from over the years all without trying too...birds fly in flocks..whatever the birds look like, or the flocks. LA has a kind of comfort for me. There are some parts of it, some restaurants, however, that nauseate me I am so sick of them...well, let's say, "James" is :) (More references to myself as "James" later, as we go along) Wow, a woman from Serbia who lives in LA called me four [View Full Entry]

Long Way to Mumbai Asia » India » Maharashtra » Mumbai
Hello! Today we're in Bombay (Mumbai)! Jamie and I spent a few days in Jaipur. Three nights to be exact. we stayed at a hotel called Evergreen guest house, which was a really cozy place with a lovely garden, a good restaurant, and a small swimming pool. The first day I had to sleep off some on-coming sickness, and so we didn't get out into the town until later that day. We walked around the old town 'The Pink City' and bumped into some local students who were 'practising their english'. after telling us all about their studies and their lives, [View Full Entry]

Bombay Train
Bombay
Bombay

Left Hare Kirshna Guesthouse at 9, decided not to pick up my "Gandi wear" and walked to New Delhi train station. Place was full of touts. Got the last ticket for Haridwar, I had to fill a form and wait for an hour or so to get my ticket. Hardiwar is a Holy Hindu city, located where the Ganges emerges from the Himalaya. Pilgrams go to the city to bathe in the Ganges. Travelled to Old Delhi train station in an auto rickshaw. Four miles of madness. Spent the day in the train station, eating, sleeping and talking to locals. Old [View Full Entry]

Hi, Today is our 5th and last day in Mcleod Ganj. It is located in the Himalaya mountains, the views here are magnificent. It is the exile residence of the HHDC (His Hinece Dali Lama). 99% of the tourists here and in the sorrounding villages are Israelies. The trend here is to take spiritual courses such as Yoga, Reiki, Meditation, Tibetian cooking (spiritual as well? maybe...), massage, even knitting (is it back?). Me and Ayelet went against the stream (as we did in Las Vegas, where we did not gamble even once) and did not take even one course. To compansate [View Full Entry]

As scheduled we left for Mumbai from Lonavala on Tuesday morning. The scenic drive was exhilarating and I was back at my favorite rant again, “I can’t believe that such a beautiful place exists so close to Mumbai!!” Mumbai city made its presence felt sooner than expected. The topography was flat, the roads dusty, the air pungent and the omnipresent shanties. We checked into the hotel, which was luxurious and comfortable. A peek outside the balcony revealed a well-manicured lawn lined with acacia palms along the peripheral wall and adjacent to the wall on the other side were t [View Full Entry]

Gateway of India, Mumbai

On the flight to Delhi I met a guy called Dave who worked for the BBC, they were doing a special on India for BBC news. Nice bloke. Didn’t get any sleep on the plane, a little apprehensive. Landed in New Delhi airport. Taxi driver from Hare Krishna guesthouse was waiting for me. I walked out of the airport and the humidity hit me. Taxi was falling apart, rusty and no seat belts. Journey into Pharganj was extreme, lots of poverty. Auto rickshaws, taxis, coaches, cows, monkeys and people all moving in different directions on the same road. It was chaotic. [View Full Entry]

So, we are safely ensconced in our new apartment -that came with a service person, who we kindly asked to not work 16 hour shifts, and who is now outside our front door cleaning everything outside. I don't think he feels its ok to leave. There's only two of us we dont need all this service -he also sleeps on the kitchen floor! I agreed to abide by all these different traditions, -not using your left hand to handle food or anything clean, not showing the soles of my feet, covering my legs and arms, not being loud about really liking [View Full Entry]
