Woolly says – With our second train of the week cancelled and no trains or buses leaving Varanasi for the next forty eight hours we were left in a bit of a pickle according to Jo, although I don’t know where she was keeping the pickle which I do like on a cheese sandwich! It wasn’t a huge problem except it would mean missing our connecting flight which was due to leave Kolkata in two days’ time. Jo sat with furrowed brow whilst Zoe cruised places to stay for the extra night, I entertained the troops and gave encouraging words for their endeavours. It took an hour of telling the mammoth to go and sing somewhere else and frantic google searches, but we got it sorted. Woolly says – Our plane arrived on the ... read more

We arrived very late at night after a long day of travelling and were surprised at the lack of traffic but were told that Kolkata closes after about 10 pm. Certainly a pleasant change from the frenetic traffic we had experienced all over India. Another thing we noticed was kerbing on the gutters. For the next two days our guide Khan, took us on a varied tour of Kolkata. First the white town and the buildings of the East India company and other colonials. We started at the magnificent Victoria Memorial built of white marble to commemorate the Queen's diamond jubilee. There are many exhibitions inside but the best is a chronological display of Kolkata's history. The gardens are beautiful as well. Our next stop was St Paul's cathedral was built in 1839-47 and has beautiful ... read more

Hello guys..This is the first time I am writing something in an open forum and that too knowing I am not good at this. Neither I m a highly experienced trekker to give you a great exposure to it but there are some experiences which are worth sharing .I have been in mountains before hiking ,trekking..but this experience was something else. I would like to call it a small expedition. We 7 Bengali friends leading the normal Bengali lives have one thing in common passion for mountains ,adventures and trekking. Amongst us 5 were having previous experience of trekking and I count myself in that too. We planned to go for Pangarchulla peak summit in April. Checked different videos in YouTube and that gave us the thrill to go for it. After lots of planning and ... read more

Mesmerising Sandakphu – God’s abode in West Bengal, India First Part: Sandakphu Himalaya has always attracted me since I was 24. Though much late in my life but it came to me like blessings when I first met my husband and listened to his countless travel to the very place. After my marriage we planned to go to a place which is the highest point of Singalila Range in the district of Darjeeling, West Bengal. Sandakphu is often considered to be a trekker’s paradise. The word paradise cannot be explained unless one see with his/her own eyes what raw nature feels like. It is quite mesmerising when you see the gamut of Himalayan ranges in your close vicinity and that too standing in the middle of a beautiful hamlet. To experience what we have heard and ... read more

23.04.2017 There was no programme till 1.30 pm. In morning we went for morning walk in jungle. Jungle is besides the private tea estate. We did some shopping. Then after lunch we went to book our jeeps for safari. Here in shop I saw Bamboo tree with real bamboo available for Rs 100 only. I wanted to purchase it. But whole Sikkim tour was to be done. So could not take it. The safari was so so. Nothing special we noticed. We saw peacock. At one point we got down from jeeps and next we went in bullock cart. There was a observation tower. We saw some bisen at long distance. We saw one hippo. Then we came back. From there we were taken to see tribal dance. After that we again sat in the jeeps ... read more

It was a package ? tour and all the meals during the voyage and night stay at different islands ? were including food ? and accommodations. It was a real delight to watch passing by boat/ship from a distance with limitless water behind. For non-vegetarians it was a real delight with local fish ? fries served with sauce and different veg varieties were served too on board. Friends.... I am sure a lot will agree and a lot will not in that "Being a social media explorer and self styled"human engineer" has done a lot of friends over a period of years through different sites like Facebook,BBM, Whatsapp,KIK, Hi5,Tagged,Instagram ,500px and many more. But one thing in common,I have always observed is the profile most people project(I don't mean all,by the by) in those sites are a lot different from what they are in real as persons. I have met both men and women boys and girls from different age groups but the thing in common was,you can never trust, baring a few,who are as caring as they pose to be. They come for different purposes in social sites. Some for scamming, some to deceive in the guise of a lover, some just to abuse, some fall victims ... read more
