Taking a newbie to India is a little like introducing a friend to an adored aged aunt. You know that she’s great value, but how will she perform on the day? After all, there are times when she forgets to wash or “has an accident”, her sense of humour isn’t always to everyone’s taste, and she can be pretty cantankerous on occasion; but when she’s on form, sharing her stories and show... Indian sights and sounds
What a fantastic blog. I love your vivid descriptions of the sights and particularly the smells of India. Little things i had forgotten about until you triggered the memories again. Happy travels, we can't wait to hear about Bhutan.......

Very interested to see a glimse of the place because Malcolm was born there,I had always thought he was born in Dargeeling, but his older sister put me right .Whether it was on one of those tea plantations or in a nursing home I don't know.

Namaste Liz! great description of mother India. I was immediately propelled right back into those noisy crammped streets with the "awakening" smells, good or bad the scent is always strong and yes-always there. Its the mad clammer to get on with what ever you are supposed to be doing that cracks me up. You cant just stop in the street and look at everything going on because you either get hussled or given strange looks that say " you must be doing something or try to look busy at least" the only rest bite is when your sitting on a train or bus and then your excused to just stare out the window. It is a mad place to go even if your completely experianced in the third world or hardened ready for a culture shock. An old rough guide described the country as a continent for it self and a complete assault on your senses. I loved it for the ameniable chirpy hussly people full of hope and humour, disliked it for the corruption and lack of toilets whithin twenty paces!! Great blog mate superb pics--look forward to Bhutan. Paul Moody
