This view is from on top of the marble base, the gigantic rock pedestal upon which the Taj sits, as Paul and I were heading towards the entrance of the Mausoleum.

Never before and never since has a tomb had such an impressive entrance.

The Minarets around the Taj (there are four of them) were constructed with a slight lean away from the Taj Mahal so that if they were to fall in an earthquake they would not damage the mausoleum.

This was on the mosque which sits on the left side of the Taj Mahal.

Inside the building on the right side of the Taj. It was built to mirror the mausoleum on the left so that the entire complex would be symmetrical. Thus, this building has never in its life had a function, or interior decorating for that matter, and yet it is as important as the mosque.

Earlier I mentioned that everyone seemed to be taking a bunch of sad, posed or silly photos; this is the point where Paul and I joined those ranks.

Those walls are massive, and you can't even see how deep the moat goes below this bridge! Capturing the fort would have been nigh on impossible.
