After our meeting with the Guru we decidd to carry on the religious theme and visited our first Sikh Temple in India - this is a place where we had to cover our heads - luckily i'd done a lot of scarf buying today so had an array of scarves to choose from - the hippy in me coming to light!! Anyway you're probably wondering why the John Wayne reference - well we had to make a mad dash after the temple, to prepare ourselves for a sunset camel trek!! Thats right we went a camel riding!! We meet our guides outside the hostel and come face to face with our camels - what a handsome duo they were - the camel that is!! Although my camel didn't particularly look like he was up for a ... read more

Julian wrote the last one so i guess its my turn! We are in Pushkar after a very long drive today from Udipur! Pushkar is a holy city whith 52 Ghats (stair cases that go right into the water) surrounding a beautiful lake. We set out on our first day here excited to see the sights and have a look through a its's famous market. It unfortunately feels like the locals are out numberd by a buch of hippie tourists. Pushkar is the place to come relax drink "special" lassis and be lazy. No wounder it attracts a certin crowd. Its almost in the running with Commercial Dr. and the amount of dreadlocks! One thing that really puts a damper on things here though are SOME of the holy men. They will track down the "new" ... read more

After another exhausting bus ride we arrived in the small town of Pushkar. It is a cute town set in the middle of the desert with a lake in the middle and 300 temples. Dave is set on the idea that a lotus flower was dropped in the desert and that is how the lake was formed..im still not convinced. In this town meat, eggs and alcohol are forbidden which makes all the menus a bit different from anything we have tried with weird substitutions. None of the restaurants are too sanitary and the hotels here are fairly dirty and not charming at all. Luckily we are only paying 4$..it is pretty disgusting but its only a couple days and we couldnt find anything better for even 10$. There is really not much to do here ... read more

I woke up in Jaipur really sick. I couldn't even think of eating Indian food for breakfast. Any food at all repulsed me. I knew I needed something in my stomach so we headed to McDonalds for some ice cream and french fries. I had to force myself to eat half the tiny ice cream and I think I ate about 2 fries. I was white as a ghost. I have no idea what made me so sick but it was hell. Pushkar is a small little city of only 15 000 people only 3 hours away from Jaipur. I read in the guidebook that it has several restaurants that serve sheppards pies, baked potatoes and other goodies that reminded me of home. I knew I had to get here, because I just couldn't even think ... read more

So here it is, my first blog, Im typing it on a keybord where the letters have all been rubbed off, which is proving rather difficult seeing as Im not a typing pro for starters. Tamara and I arrived in Pushkar today after a not so bad train ride from New-Delhi. We booked at this hotel which was in the budget (not midrange) section of our already budget guide. I was a bit dubious but in fact the hotel is really beautiful with an amazing roofterrace overlooking the entire town. On arrival we were aproached by a taxi driver who promised to take us to our hotel. He did not do so and left us to find our way. We argued ffor a while but then gave up and decided to walk with our backpacks to ... read more

Namaste all, I'm currently spending time in the town of Pushkar in Rajasthan in India's north after having left Dehli on the morning of the fifth. Sam and Chris met me at the airport, and it was damn fine to see them. They even had a sign to meet me with. In true overseas fashion, they had mispelt it. Sam was (and is) looking furry, and I have a lot of respect for his beard (sorry Amanda). Settle (Chris) is his good old jovial self, and stands a full foot among the people here - a real boon when trying to find him. Whisked off from the airport, I didn't actually get to see much of Delhi, nor would I, as we left for Pushkar the next day at the ungodly hour of six am, squeezing ... read more

31st December 2006, Ranthambore National Park This day we did a safari of the park. It was truly stunning, with dramatic cliff faces and blue-green lakes and all kinds of animals, such as spotted and samba deer, crocodiles, tigers (although we didn't see any!) and lots more. Of course because it's Incredible India - dotted amongst the park were many crumbling relics of bygone eras, including a 10th century fort! It was just incredible and I would definitely recommend doing it if you ever get the chance! We were also ambushed by a family of monkeys - Dada monkey jumped into our safari jeep and tried to attack us. It was kind of funny and scary at the same time. Another highlight of the day was Cliff dropping his lens cap off the side of the ... read more

Left Heidi in Jaipur for a night and went to Pushkar, a small religious town about 3 hours away. It was SUCH a nice change from the big cities - gorgeous whitewashed bathing ghats set around a holy lake, where loads of pilgrims come to bath and do a 'puja' (prayer) in the holy water. Even though I enjoyed my week of luxury with mum, it felt good to get back into the 'traveller's life' again, taking the local bus, meeting random locals and just getting to explore on foot. The town is set out in the mountains and the lake and backdrop was absolutely stunning, and was lovely to just wander down the small dusty quiet streets, meet some of the friendly locals and shop in the interesting bazaar without all the noise and hassle ... read more
