Hello all again!
Happy new years! Hope you all had a fantastic night :) We spent the night in Ranthambhore National Park, which is apparently the place in india where you are most likely to see a tiger- not that we did :( Had a great safari in the park though, and cliff got some great animal pics that he is sure to bore you all with when we get back! and also managed to drop my lens cap near a crocodile, which i was really impressed with!
Had a very interesting new years- the indian people LOVE noise in a big big way, and so we had bollywood classics played at full pelt, so loud that the speakers were distorting! But they did play a lot of music from the latest bollywood hit- Dhoom 2- which we saw in jaipur, so we all had fun with that.
We spent the 1st and 2nd january in a small town called bundi, which is off the normal "tourist trail" and so was lovely and small. Spent a couple of days just exploring the town and its amazing castle overlookng the area, and the boys had great fun playing cricket and flying kites
Hawa Mahal, JaipurAlso known as the Palace of the Winds, this palace was built with special cut out windows so that the royal women could watch what was happening on the streets below without leaving the complex
with the local kids :)
And yesterday we went to Bijaipur, which is another gorgeous small village, and explored there too :) The place we stayed at last night was gorgeous- a real life castle! Its called Castle Bijaipur, and had beautiful rooms, great massages and a nice pool. Oh, and a table tennis table! We were in heaven :)
We are now in Pushkar, which is a very holy village for Hindus. It is said that the main lake in the middle of the town was formed when Brahma was fighting a demon and dropped a lotus leaf to earth. And it is such a beautiful place. This really is a tourist kinda place though- hence being able to find internet access! We are staying in probably one of the best hotels of our trip as well, so will be making the most of the next few days of luxury :)
Ok, want to put some photos up as well, so will sign off now.
Take care,
Lots of love,
Lauren and Cliff.
Hawa MahalCliff and Andrew demonstrate how short Indians were in the olden days :)
Monkeys, Ranthambhore NPThey look so cute & innocent, but they are so cheeky! Cliff just had to throw a pastry at one because it tried to attack him :)
Indian Tree PieUnfortunately for cliff, this pie is of the bird variety, not a meat one! (we are really missing western food!!!)
Royal Cenotaph, BundiThis monument stands at the site where the maharaja and members of his family are cremated
Celebrities! We stopped to watch a "throw-ball" (like volleyball) competition in Bundi, and were immediately put in the VIP tent, given chai and snacks and videotaped for the local tv station! so bizarre..
BundiThis gorgeous little girl read all our palms (i am having 4 kids, cliff 3, maddy 5, andrew 3!) and then showed us around her home. This is her modelling my sunglasses!
