Because the last time I got to the internet was the first time in a long while, I forgot to mention a lot of things, most of them having to do with bugs. First off, it's India, there are mosquitos. They itch. Aly needs to stop scratching her mosquito bites. I hope I don't get malaria, but this is one of those things you just have to deal with when the time comes. While in Jaisalmer, we had to deal with lots and lots of flies. These flies comes in hordes like no other, while you're eating, standing in a shop, walking on a street. There's no escaping them. The first night that it rained through our closed window despite the fact that it had rained so on me enough to wake me up and close it. Not only did the rain pour in the window and soak the bed so that I woke up in a pool of water that soaked my pajamas, but once we opened the window when the rain let up the next morning, the flies came. To finish the night, I had to sleep at the foot of the bed to avoid the areas that had
been soaked by rain. The next night, we slept in a different room, and while there was no problem with rain coming in our closed window, we did have a small problem with an ant infested bed. While it wasn't horrible, it was enough to question whether you have an ant crawlling through every orafice, and waking up with them all over you is not a fun experience. Even a sleeping pill could not get me to sleep.
On the way out of Jaisalmer, I learned quite a bit about Indian driving. The roads are narrow, and city driving is crazy enough, but driving on the highway, takes on different levels. Everyone, coming from all directions, pretty much drives in the center of the road and plays a complex game of chicken until the last moment when they swerve to one side. When we were in the bus, my view of the road was blocked by the driver's seat, so I couldn't see the many times we had what looked like to us as close calls. I could only hear Aly sitting next to me whenever something happened. It certainly is a different style.
Today we went to the City Palace and walked down MI road to do some shopping. The Palace seemed rather blah, especially because we couldn't really relax there. Today seems to be the day all the schools in the area went on fields trips there, and we quickly acquired a large posse of teenage boys. I really want to find out how to say, "May all the Hindu Gods (or maybe just a particularly vicious one) bite your balls off" in Hindi. I feel like that may have gotten them to leave us alone. We then went lunch at a new restaurant in Jaipur that's at the top of a tower and rotates. It was cool. Shopping was bland, sadly. I think it was because we weren't in the city walls, but Aly wanted to see this area. Aly then tried a Lassi from a place she read about in Lonely Planet, but it was from a street vendor, and I think it was the drink of death, which is why I writing really quickly now, because I think we may have to make a mad dash back to the hotel bathroom. Adios!
