Day 5 return to Bikaner and the At Temple
A good nights sleep was had by all. Kyla and I were talking to Ankur, now I know his real name!) ; he asked if we had seen the,'toilet in the tent'. Neither of us had. We went over.... Amazing! The locals had rigged up a western toilet in a tent! A site to see in the middle of the desert! Even if the drainage pipe did end outside the tent! After breakfast, we didn't have to ride the camels, we rode back in the camel carts back to the village. We transferred to the vehicles, it was a much longer journey than I remember going out!
The trek home in carts lead by a camel was much nicer than the trek in! I shared a cart with Hannah, ... And Patrick. Patrick is from Germany and he has the most wicked sense if humour. He has everyone in stitches... All of the time.
On returning to Tamarind Hotel......ohhhh... I felt so dirty! First job of the day was to get a shower, then to get my bit of washing done as we will be here over night. The new nifty washing
line is a right bonus! Well worth a pound!! I was pleased to get the trousers off; they felt like they could have stood in the corner on their own!
All that done, I needed to get organised to go out for group lunch. We went into Bikaner Main Street to a restaurant. Ankur is really careful guiding us were we can, and can't eat. That really does help!
After lunch a few of us went shopping down the Main Street, but after about ten minutes, Kyla and I decided there was nothing worth buying, so we split off to head back to the hotel. We did get very lost! But after haggling with a couple if locals... Who clearly had no idea what we wanted, we did manage to get back, more by good luck than good judgement!
We just have half an hour spare for a little snooze before meeting up for the rat temple! I wasn't really that interested in going..... Just VERY curious!
About 7 of us wanted to go, so Ankur organised transport, and off we went......OMG ...... it was just as disgusting as I had anticipated.
The legend is that a boy drowned whilst
trying to take a drink from a pond Kapil Saovar, the mother begged for the God of Death, Yama, to revive him, she finally relented, but it was agreed that all of her children be reincarnated as rats! All the same, I struggled to keep the look of disgust off my face, so had to leave as it may have offended them, which I wouldn't have wanted to do. We walked through the temple,IN BARE FEET, with hundreds of rats running all over. It was totally gross..... And I can't believe that they believe it!
We returned to Tamarind to chill for the evening. Kyla and I were still full from lunch, so didn't bother with the evening meal. We went up on the balcony, chatted, laughed, smoked, drank water..... Then did it all again.... A few times... Lol. A shower and then bed for me as we have an early start in the morning.

Hello
Hi Lesley, Glad to see youre getting into the spirit of it! Mike laughed when i said you were being towed by a camel, dont think i realised quite what i'd said. (Camel toe?) THe Rat temple sounds totally gross, particularly in bare feet! Keep up the writing, i'm following with fascination. xxx
