Merry christmas everyone!
Hope you all had a fantastic day :)
We are now in Delhi, having survived the 52 hour train ride! It was actually really pain free- spent many hours playing poker (playing with real notes and coins, just to give you an idea of how little they are worth relative to our money) and eating icecream (cause the other food was GROSS!) The trains are really quite comfortable, and quite an experience :)
We spent today exploring Old Delhi, which dates back to the 16th century and so has some amazing bazaars, alleyways and temples/mosques/churches. We spent some time at the largest mosque in Asia, which can hold 25,000 pilgrims at peak times.
And we had the most bizarre Christmas lunch! We had lunch at a Sikh temple, where 500 people sat on the floor and all ate from communal cooking. And the food is all free as the Sikh religion promotes sharing and lack of greed. Most amazingly kind people, and the prayer room itself was amazing- the priests pray, sing and read from their holy book continuously all day... must get so tired :)
This afternoon we organised for the boys to get some suits made, which is very exciting for maddy and i! they are going to be great- 100% merino wool and cashmere, hand tailored, and so cheap! i am still hanging out to buy a sari- trying to leave it till the end of the trip :)
Tomorrow morning we are leaving around 6am to travel to the Taj Mahal, which i am really looking forward to. Could think of worse things to do on Boxing Day :)
Once again, have found a circa-1930 computer, and so there is no way to download photos! But will have to put up some more soon- they are so much more interesting than hearing me crap on and on :)
Well, prob enough boring you all for now!
Absolutely loving India, but missing you all,
Love Lauren & Cliff
