Indian Traffic can be pretty overwhelming for a first-timer from the U.S but here are a few tips on how to manage:

1) The first rule to Indian Driving is: there are NO rules!

2) Stopping at a red light is optional

3) If you missed your turn and there is no U-Turn, no worries, just hit your breaks and bust out a 3-point turn in the middle of the street. The cars behind you will honk, but wait for you to finish and the scooters and bikes will simply go around you. No biggie.

4) If you have to drive in the opposite direction on a one-way street, eh...why not.

5) Cows always have the right of way.

6) Pedestrians do not. (Pray they can move out of your vehicles lane fast enough and if not...well I guess that's why so many of the beggars use crutches/have missing limbs etc.)

7) If your blonde and your riding in the front seat of the same vehicle down the same street more than once, the small children beggars will remember you instantly (especially that one time when you gave them a few rupees) and all flock to your car. (Let's face it they do that even if you ignore them and don't give them any rupees...) And yes the small children will shout to the others in Hindi, English Girl, English Girl, English Girl!!! (English Girl = Money)

8) All vehicles in India have side mirrors that fold...turns out, this was a very good idea. India brings a whole new meaning to the word: Bumper to Bumper Traffic

9) Screaming for dear life doesn't slow down the driver any, it just makes him turn up his Punjabi Music louder

10) Yes that little photo on the dashboard of the car is a picture of a god/goddess...and yes the Hindu's pray to that god/goddess everytime they start the engine...
