Well after a very long flight, which I must say was lovely, food good, service good and even managed to watch 3 movies we landed in Delhi. The journey to our hotel was amazing how people drive here amazes me, no one sticks to their lanes and everyone drives like maniacs with a lot of tooting of horns. Very surprised at our hotel, pure luxury. After checking in we went for a stroll to the local shopping area, hardly the metro centre but Julie still managed to buy 2 new items of clothing. Back at the hotel we went for a swim but didn’t stay in to long as we were surrounded by mosquitoes, we then showered and changed and went to the Indian restaurant in the hotel where I must say the food and service ... read more

Living in New Delhi, India during the summer (whose idea was this again?!)...not the most comfortable of scenarios. Especially if your living in your flat without an air conditioner and only a ceiling fan and cracked open windows to help. So what to do...what to do what to do.... Option one) Buy an a/c (but that of course is very costly and lets face it this is a rented apartment) two) Rent an a/c (Sounds like a sweet deal, get it all summer long! But of course watch out for unbranded a/c's as this will cause the electricity bill to spike.) three) go swimming (But then again as a blonde white girl in India...that would mean searching for either a swimming pool with only a ladies section or checking the pool hours to see what time ... read more

Delhi the 2nd time back - 3-6 December 2015 We arrived in Delhi 2.5 hrs late as the fog in Kathmandu didn't allow our plane to land in the city until later. All was well as there was a driver to pick us up and take us to our hotel on arrival. It takes so long to get anywhere in Delhi due to the mad traffic. As we didn't get to the hotel until 4.30pm we decided not to do any sightseeing, but to leave it all for the next 2 days. To keep the story short, we found the Hop-on-Hop-off bus was not working on our first full day back in Delhi (Friday) and there were no vacancies on Saturday. We then organised a car to take us around to the sights the second day. ... read more

Day 28 - good bye Helen and Siem Reap - Hello India! Ahhhh ..... Today is a bitter sweet day. Helen flies back home, I go on to Delhi, India to start phase 2 of my trip. No rushing today, as it is a long travelling day for us both. We started with a hearty breakfast in the hotel. Then back to the room to pack. Helen is taking all my shopping home with her, and some other bits. She has been carrying these since the accident so that I could manage to keep going, I couldn't have done it without her! Her carrying my extra to keep me light hassle a huge difference for me. I am so used to being on my own, but now I've got used to travelling with Helen, so it ... read more

Travelogue to Dharamshala To reach Dharamshala there is 24x7 bus service from ISBT Kashmiri Gate from where you can book a Volvo, Ac, luxury, deluxe and semi-deluxe bus. We started our journey at night 9:20 by boarding a bus from ISBT Kashmiri Gate. My elder brother booked the ticket in advanced from website of Himachal Roadways. Earlier we thought it would be deluxe non-ac bus but actually it was an AC coach. Afterwards, we began our journey in bus from Delhi to Dharamshala. It took us total 12 hours to reach Dharamshala in between bus stopped at three points for refreshment first at night around 12 pm on highway dhaba, secondly at some mid way and lastly at point where the actual hill start for about 4 hours continuous. This is the third halt point where ... read more

Day 20 - Arrive back in Delhi It was another good overnight train. Probably the cleanest so far! We were on for about 12 hours. It is weird, but you do soon get used to travelling and sleeping on the trains. It was a good nights sleep for all, with no interruptions! We arrived safely back in Delhi in time for breakfast. Ankur led a small group of us to a local spot for breakfast., The Bread of Life cafe, The local favourite is a mini tiffin. I had that for breakfast. It is bits of this and that with a dosa and a cup of coffee. One strange item on the plate was gunpowder! Strange, but I actually enjoyed it! After settling back into The Hotel Perfect, where it all began, Kyla, Jude and I ... read more

Day 2 - Delhi I safely at about 10am India time. Flight and pick up both went smoothly. I had an interesting transfer ride from Delhi airport to the, 'Hotel Perfect', with two other girls who are bound for the same trip. Emily & Zoe are both from the London area. Good start! The driver gave us a running commentary on the current festival that is building up. We passed a topless car carrying two people who were representing Lord Savva and his bride. There were constant streams of people dressed in orange carrying really colourful, and dressed water carriers. They take water from the Ganges to offer to The Lord and his bride. For this the people will have their wishes granted. Eg be successful, have children etc. The hotel is quite nice, basic, but ... read more

Day one-Travelling Phew wow.... A very hard star to this journey! I have already named it my, 'Exotic Hotel' journey. A pun on the similarly named film! I had two very difficult conversations with Jonny Crooks and my Dad before I left. John updated me on Di's medical situation, which I am struggling to leave behind, but I know Di was keen for me to do this trip for so many reasons; then my Dad, given the situation with the very recent passing of my Mum, it's hard to leave him behind too! I know it is hard for everyone involved on both counts. I am aware that all my friends and family want me to continue with my plans; the hard reality is that there is nothing I can do about any of it. This ... read more

Well dear readers this is my last blog for my India leg of my trip. We took a flight back from Varanasi back to Delhi. We stopped on the way for a take way breakfast at 9am in the morning from Macdonalds - it was closed!!! What's that all about I ask you. So we tried the fake Burger King and hit the same problems so it was off to the airport for us and we had be brekkie there instead. However no brown bread, no orange juice and we couldn't decide if the beans on toast was the kind we have in the UK or perhaps kidney beans or some other kind of beans on toast. So erred on the side of caution and went for fried eggs, white bread and a milky coffee. The ... read more
