Back to Varkala - The tomb!!

Set off back to Varkala and on arrival Pete set off to find a new room - he seemed quite proud of himself upon his return having secured quite a spacious room after looking at about 6 or 7... I'd been waiting in the cafe for him with the packs and couldn't really hide my shock when he showed me the room - it was like a tomb! Dark wood panelling (a feature of Keralan architecture) which made it really quite strange to sit in.
Anyway I agreed to stay for the night and got settled into my sleepsack, making sure it was over my head! It was like a shroud really and in the tomb like room I felt a bit freaked out!
The following day we looked for a new room - Pete didnt tell me until we moved out that he had woken in the night and gone to the bathroom which had loads of beetle type creatures all over the floor...he just locked the door and got back into bed hoping I wouldnt wake up!!
It didnt end there with the dodgy room either as Pete went to pay and the qoted price shot up by rs400 per night - as pete tried to argue about this the room filled up with the men who have shares in the accommodation - Pete just threw the money at them and left! So dont stay at Bamboo Haven if you find yourself in North Cliff, Varkala!
We booked into the green palace "the swishest place on the cliff' according to the rough guide and I haggled a 50% discount so while the room was just over a tenner it was great. a really nice place to stay with sea views and surprisingly lots of other backpackers too...
We quickly settled back into the routine of sunbathing, walking, eating and chatting to people...It's a hard life!
