For those of you that don’t know what carigslist is, well…get with the program. It is an incredible website created in San Francisco by a guy who if I remember correctly wanted to find housing and couldn’t find one place to go. It is completely free and the site is basically one huge garage sale/classified ad/personals page. So Monday was spent driving around Bangalore trying to ship packages home to my family in Chicago. Who would have thought a task so easily accomplished in the States would cause me so much frustration. I had purchased some small items for my family and I had intended on shipping them back in time for Christmas. Getting the packages home was difficult in itself, but my problems began a week earlier when I tried to get gift wrapping for them. I actually had purchased most of the items within the first week of being here but finding wrapping paper was quite difficult. This has been a tough week for me, have not been feeling well this week, mostly due to lack of sleep...i have been getting to bed around 430 AM, but then I am awoke at around 7AM by the contruction going on in the building...Also the situation with the driver has been very inconvenient. Today we went to Chikpet to shop....Kelly (my boss here) and I went with a girl from the office to buy some clothing. Kelly tried on some fantastic sarees and bought two. I saw a pack of monkeys (there were about 15) I did not buy anything...yes you read correctly...i did not buy anything. This was a first for me here, but i think it was because i feel awful. The new British Air flight from Los Angeles to Bangalore is probably the best I have ever flown to India. With a total transit time of 21 hours with only a 2 hour stop in London's Heathrow, the flight went very well. It's interesting but painful to experience the down sizing of the seating space from London to Bangalore compared to LAX to London. My knees were wedged into the seat in front of me for the leg to India beause either I grew by three inches or the airline took 3+ inches out of the space between seats! So welcome to India. The Bangalore international luggage terminal is a room big enough to hold one 30 foot long luggage carousel and about 100 people. Today additional difficulties with the driver sitation....again they did not show up to pick me up...again i had words with the service....was late for work. Not much to report today...not feeling great, kind of tired...was woken up at about 7AM by construction..had a hard time getting back to sleep...had maybe 4 hours total... read more
