Uggh... I just wrote for at least 20 min. - and I just lost the whole thing. Sorry if the last entry was hard to follow - I was just alittle tipsy. SO I had booked an overnight train ticket from Mumbai to Madgao - planning to catch a locall bus for 2hrs. from there straigh to Gokarna. But theat's not what happened. I met a girl on the train from England (living in Australia) who didn't have a place to sleep. She had bought a general class ticket (seat only), hoping to upgrade, but the train was more than full. So she sat with me and we stayed up late talking (got hushed by the conductor a couple of times). Then she spent the rest of the night moving around trying to find a spot ... read more
Hello everyone, just a quick catch up as have to get on with some work today as boss is back in town. Last week I only managed a few days at work, Monday was strike day and Friday much to my delight was a holiday, only realised after being in work for a few hours that no one was coming in, I was led to believe it was a celebration of Shiva so the temples around the city was pretty crowded. During the week we all went to Taika, a club on Church Street in central Bangalore, for no reason whatsoever I won the valentines prize which is a day in F-Spa at Le Meridian 5* Hotel, so have that to look forward to at the weekend, On Friday night we set out for another Indian ... read more
We're still baffled as to why people queued to hurl bananas at the gigantic chariots but nevertheless we dutifully joined in the religiuous fervour. Surely there was some deeply symbolic significance to the bananas but the real reason eluded us and the process appeared to resemble a cross between target practice and a food fight. The great wooden chariot (see pic from our last blog) had now been adorned in red and white flags, covering every inch of the wooden framing. Men stood in front of the massive chariot armed with banana missiles and aimed at the heart of the chariot in an attempt to land a banana through the door, or in some cases blatantly targetting the children inside. The kids responded by turfing the bananas back into the crowd - the ensuing result was ... read more
After a small backtrack south we find ourselves at Om beach, over the hill from the holy city of Gokarna and a world away from everything else. It's a laid back idyllic spot far removed from the hussle and bussle of the beaches of Varkala, Palolem and Patnem and by far the penultimate of the beach experiences so far. Cows meander along the sand nudging bare bodies with their noses, local boys frolic in the waves and travellers settle in and make the picture perfect beach home. At night bonfires dot the beach, and new friends are made over a deep conversation or a game of cards - Yarniff is the game of the moment and we've learnt some crazy new rules from the Israelis. There's no rickshaws, no cars, no motorbikes - the only noises ... read more

After a brief tour up north, I decided that it was about time to head down to the hot, sticky South for a bit of R&R- After all, this is my holiday! Once I got down south, the heat and humidity were intense… Unfortunately, that made my overstuffed bag even more miserable to travel with, especially on a 5-hour bumpy bus ride! Once I got to my perfect little paradise in the sacred Hindu city of Gokarna, I decided that I need to reconsider- actually, scratch that- REPACK this bag! Once I unloaded some stuff onto some locals and sent the rest of my things home, I felt so much lighter- thus I could finally begin to enjoy the exuberant city of Gokarna, which is located on the western coast of the state of Karnataka. It ... read more
Hi Guys.. So tam and I took the slightly (by an hour) delayed train from the train station in Goa to Gokarna. The Train station in Goa looked more like a house and when the autorickshaw driver droped us off we though that we were in the wrong place. We took the very packed train sitting on benches with the other passengers. It was a really beautiful train ride. The landscapes in the south are so green and lush. I read most of the way while tamara enjoyed the view. On arrival in Gokarna we realised that the distance to the beach where we wanted to stay was quite long and that the bus was arleady full. We jumped into a autorickshaw which took us down the bumpy roads. We stoped at some point and realised ... read more
So, yes the bus, well, luckily id met people who were getting off at Gorkana too, cos it dropped us off at like 3.30 in the morning, and obviously theres no rickshaws or owt about at that time, so we slept on the beach, wudnt have enjoyed that too much alone (rape and theft anyone?).. but it turned out ok, it was kind of nice to wake up with the sunrise and the sound of the sea.. Im at a place called Om beach, its really nice here, still waters, not like in Goa, and theres hardly anyone here, which is really good, just have all day to chill out.. Saying that, i find it really hard to get in the habit of just doing nothing, i always feel like i should be doing something ... read more
So, how do you define a perfect holiday? Lazing on a sun kissed beach with a bottle of Las tequilas or hiking up a mountain with adventure on mind. Well I wanted both and it wasn’t all that hard to choose a spot that offers both. Viva La Goa!!! The picturesque sea side Portuguese colony, bordering the Western Ghats of India was the place to be this monsoon. Shimmering white sands, the swaying palms and the never ending surf were such a temptation it was hard to let go off the place once we were there. A sleepy atmosphere perfected by the locals in tune with the drowsy tourists. Everything runs a little slow here, like delayed body responses after you finish half a bottle of vodka. People eat four times a day like every one ... read more
Hello everyone! We're in Paradise and have not been able to haul ourselves off the beach long enough to get to an internet cafe to keep you updated. Will post some information today, but it's only for our first few days of travel. Will update this again soon. We haven't figured out how to download photos yet, so sit tight. All in all, we're having a great time. We're happy, healthy, and well-fed. It is a little too hot and humid here, but we're surviving OK now that we're on the beach and getting the breeze off of the Arabian Sea. Nice sunsets and lots of stars!! If you want to check out where we are, look up Om Beach and Paradise Beach in Karnataka, India. I'm sure there's lots of pictures on the net already. ... read more
