Manchester
here's us at manchester, bright and early at 5am! Well heellllo! What a hectic few days its been. We took a trip to a boy's children's home the other day with one of the interns a czech girl called lenka. It was really good and me and alice both think we want to teach there. The kids there were very malnourished and i thote alot of them were 9 or ten but turns out they were 15 and 16. It was a sad thing to see but it made us feel very lucky that we are so fortunate. The kids also got beat if they were naughty but alot of them were copying the teachers and using sticks to beat other children. They were very enthusiastic to learn english and alot of them seemed more intelligent than the school we visited previously. They loved to play games and so we had lots of fun! We also met a dude called steve from england. Hes 34 and travelling around the world. It seems alot of the interns are travelling after sowe may meet up with some. In the afternoon we visited the girls children's home. The girls craved lots of attention and wanted to be hugged but i felt quite wary
Germany
And here's tara after the excitement has worn off. cos alot of them are ill. We noticed some of the girls didnt participate and were sat at the back and later we found out that they were really ill with tb.
Yesterday it was our first day off. We got up extremely early toi go to the market and met some fo the interns. While we were waiting for the interns we notcied a man squating down and on clser inspection he was urinating on the street!!!! I think we are getting used to the standards of hygiene now. There were 8 of us altogether. Kevin an american guy who went with us is soo funny. He is ur typical american tourist. He goes up to anyone talking to them and invites himself in pictures! At one point duriong the day a child beggar started to pee on him his repl was "hey buddy, watch what your doing down there, put that away!" He is a geek but makes us laugh! He is soo corny though. He is very much a free love hippy kind of guy. I said that he reminded me of jesus! We then went to the botanical gardens and went to a restaurant for
lunch. The restaurant we went to reminded me of schoool dinners. It was good food but the service made me laugh. They kept topping you up with food and the waiters were slopping everywhere. Alice and steve also tried these weird leaf freshening things but they werent very pleasant! and were described as perfume! After we took a trip to bull temple in a ricksahw where wqe saw an elephant on the street! Oh no silly tara it was just a lorry with sacks on it! I was silly yesterday the heat has made everyone quite giddy. iN The temple when asked for donations i said to a man "i dont think i have anything low enough in my purse" hsa ha ha ha! oops! Steve gathered that alice has a fascination for engliosh tourist destinations and she keeps comparing exotic india to blackpool, centre parcs and the lake district!!!!! And he asked if she worke for the english tourist board!
Anywho at night there was a party at bern's house. We all felt very tired though and it took us a while to get going! Ity was a leaving do for some of the teachersalot of them were
And we have arrived!
In the bumpety jeep! english. It was fnny at first cos there was a bit of a divide between the interns that were leaving and us! We hadnt had ayn drinks but we decided to go to the shop to get some. The streets are quite dodgy and girls cant go out on their own we had to get a lad to go with us cos girls arent supposed to buy alcohol. When we went back alot of poeple were dancing. Berns cousins were so good at it but as alice described it the danciung was quite sexual! We were hesitant to go back to the office for a little after party but in the end went. It was a good laughand we went up to Jagan's flat where he and another guy were playing the guitar and we all sang~! It all sounds so cringewoirthy and it was! We sang some good classics such as puff the magfic dragon! We all sounded so bad though and the timing was out of sync! Of course kevin was there with his usual annoiyuing american enthusiasm! At the end of a verse i decided to do a little solo on my own for daydream believer ntil
In the midst of the mosquito net struggle
Aliiiice why are we here???and i have panda eyes!! i realised everyone was looking at me. yEP what a good way to meet the the new people! I was quiet after that!we slept at the office and then at seven in the morning took a very loing rickshaw ride round bangalore till we finally managed to get back home. Today we are havign a hangover day and chilling out. We are moving to the office tonight but i have kind of got comfortable where we are and will miss bern's house and her nieces.
I dont know what it is but people keep picking up on our accents. Apparently we say "sUnday" instead of "sAnday" which is correct anyway! And we constantly say "well good" They pick up on our mannerisms but the head wobbling is extremely contagious. Yesterday when getting a new simcard (still not sorted out yet will be soon!) alice kep wobbling her head in agreement. I really love it though and think i may start it off when home too!
