Day-6: 28-08-2021 - Nubra-Hunder to Leh: The last day of the Ladakh tour included a return journey from Hunder to Leh. Crowded it was, as we had seen while passing through two days back, but the people were simply going mad. There was a real traffic jam at 18000+ ft! Vehicles were parked at will wherever there was some space (see video). We stopped a few feet after crossing the peak and did enjoy the snowfall for a while. It was our first experience of snow. Entertaining it was, but it raises serious issues about sustainability of the environment if such behaviour is allowed to continue. If we can restrict the time a vehicle remains inside the airport pick-up/drop-off zone, why not at such crucial and delicate points? On either side of Khardung La there are ... read more

Leh to Kardung La. Highest pass in the world. The next day was a well earned leisurely day off in Leh, getting to know the place and discover the delights in store. Leh is a mixture of ancient Ladahki mud brick buildings and concrete hotels. The streets are very dusty and as usual, traffic is chaotic and there is a constant background noise of hooting horns, cows mooing and people trying to sell you things. In addition, during the day there are sleeping dogs lying everywhere. The problem is that in the night, if one dog barks it starts off all the rest and there must be a thousand or so of these street dogs in the town. One of the delights of the town is the bakeries. Apparently many years aboard group of Germans came to ... read more

I was really kicked about the bicycle trip. I was going to cycle from Khardung La, the world's highest motorable road (18380 ft) to Leh, a distance of 37 kms. I reached the cycling company and test rode my bicycle. Since there was still time, I thought of having some breakfast, while all the others test rode their bicycles. Once all of us (there were 3 people from Italy and 2 from Switzerland), were done, the guys tied all the bicycles to the roof of the cab and we were ready to go. We started our drive upto Khardung La. Since I had already crossed the Khardung La, on my trip to Nubra valley, I did not take much from the ride. After a couple of hours, I was there. I had a cup of black ... read more

Got up at about 6 am and left to Khardung La. Ravish and JP decided to stay back and hence I went with Brian and Payal in the same xylo driven by Ali. We had breakfast before we left and reached Kardung La the highest motorable road in the world at about @ 18380 feet by 8 am. There me and Brian trekked to the highest point of pass and took some awesome photographs. Then had maggi and ladhaki chai at the cafeteria there and then started by about 10am and returned to leh by about 11:15am. Then had lunch at Thongsal and did most of the packing. At 4pm went and got my Bike’s crash guard fixed which had bent a little when I had a fall on the way to leh. Then went to ... read more

All the plans, resist & the fighting that we had for 3 years on when we will be going to leh has finally come, I’m really satisfied writing after my 1st day. Hello, Well since we last updated this we've been on a nine day trek around Ladakh (which was epic- no cars, roads and very small villages), biked over 60kn to see a buddhist monastry (very interesting... but wait for the next bit) and had some chronic stomach problems (soph is currently collapsed beside me - and i'm just about sitting upright) - which caught us out on the bike ride and the trek! Weve just got some super strength pills from local doctor and just so long as its what it says we should be fighting fit in no time! Right I need to run off to the loo so got to go! will speak soon - hopefully the dalai lama will cure us in our next stop - Dharamsala! ... read more
