Hier kommt endlich unser erster Blogeintrag. 3.9. Beim Checkout werden wir zu einer Rezension auf booking genötigt, dann will man uns unbedingt ein ... read more

We woke up early and one of Bashir's friends took us across the Lake, we caught an Autirickshaw and got to the bus station at 7.15am. The guys in charge strapped everyone's larger luggage on top of the bus, so we didn't have much on us. The bus was supposed to leave at 8am, and it only left 20 mins late! So we set off for Leh. We stopped off at two places to eat on the way and it was becoming clear that the altitude was starting to effect most people on the bus. We started to get a bad headache, shortness of breath and a tight chest. But because we were on the bus, it slowly improved as we were travelling up the Himalayas at a steady speed. The bus journey was going fine ... read more

Little Bit Long Time At 3:45 in the afternoon we were high up in the desolate mountains in northern India; our bus was the first in line at a bit of “road construction,” which turned out to be a rockslide in the making. We piled off the bus to get a closer look at what was happening ahead of us on the road. A local man came up to us and told us that we would be here “little bit long time.” Boy was he right. The other two foreigners on the bus and I spent the next few hours contemplating whether or not the slide had been intentional or not – and if it had been, why create it in the middle of the freakin’ day when there is heavy traffic? One man was on ... read more

Got up at about 4am and got ready and packed everything on the bikes and were ready by 6 am. Left the house boat area by 6:20am and fueled up all the bikes and hit the Sonamarg road. Had breakfast at a dhaba at 8am. Then started riding and reached sonamarg by about 10am. Sonmarg was beautiful with lot of greenery and plenty of white snow all over. There were pleanty of ponies everywhere and a little crowded with tourists. After crossing sonamarg just before entering the zojila pass an army jawan stopped us saying we can’t go further as the pass is blocked and we need to wait. Just then another jawan by name “Thulasi reddy” came and started talking to us recognizing our number plates to be from Karnataka. He told us that he ... read more

28th - 29th June After visiting the Hot water spring at Panamik, we drove to khardunla with just one pit stop for lunch. It was not as crowded as we saw the other day, so we went to the top and got some pictures. By now we were all used to AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), Oxygen Kit that we took was never used and we never felt like we were at 18300 ft. I guess our plan to first go to Chang la did work. Khardungla captured!!!! Our next target was Kargil, we decided to take a Srinagar root back to Chandighar. We saw magnetic hill on our way, tried our luck and the hill seems to have lost the magnet to pull the vehicle when the ignition is off. Road was good from Leh till ... read more

Hi there! Haven't I done well.......only a few wks since the last one!! There's still tons to write though, so hope you're sitting comfortably!! I think I left off in lovely Leh...I have fond memories, even now! I'd just aquired Bob, and Claudio and I were about to set off on a new adventure to Zanskar valley. There were a few of us going, or so we thought. I had a few things I wanted to do to the bike before we went......new back tyre, check the gear box, just small things. Most things for bikes are really cheap over here. The new back tyre was a shock.....around 1500 ruppees! Considering a whole new front shock would only have cost 600, I nearly fell over at the tyre. It's really good though....probably 1 and half times ... read more

The two day bus from Srinigar to Leh stopped here for a night - 10pm to 5am. The bus ride is increadible. I am sitting on the back seat of the bus, but don't really mind the big bounces since the views of out the windows are so amazing. Ataf is riding next to me - an Isreali who was staying in the same boat as the English girls and we are switching so we alternate for the window seat. I heard in Leh that Kargil was shelled a few nights after we stayed there and someone died - so this journey isn't the safest in the world. I don't think it was downtown that was shelled but the army tents, but I have no idea how close they are.... read more
