Visiting Dharamsala

Hi everybody!

On the road again for another 8 hours on the local bus, we were soon to find out that McLoudganj was the busiest it had ever been for the following week. The great Dalai Lama himself was giving teaching for a week in one of the tempels. Of course we didn't want to miss out and got ourselves some entry-passes and a translation radio after searching for a room that wasn't taken by the hords of people, for more than one hour. The teachings themselves weren't as great as we expected them to be, so we didn't attend more than a few times, but to see the Dalai Lama in person was defenitly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The room we found was one of the best so far in Daramkot. We hired a cooker there so we could make our own food. We even tried our hand at curry.
Met some great people, did some good walks and just enjoyed the mountains, when the rain let up enough. Aaron did a tiny bit of communication english teaching with some Tibetian refugees, and we both tried to find some volunteer work, but with no avail. We did the tourist things and after 2 weeks itchy feet got us moving again.

We awoke to the clouds swept mountains of northern India, at Dharamkot. We awake in search of cooking utencils to cook our first own meal in the room. We climbed in water soaked sandles down the rocky steps of the Dharamkot-McLeod Gang-Dharamsala way, to find Dharamsala to be quite an interesting town. It was great to get away from little Israel (Dharamkot) into the real spice of India, to do market shopping and taste the sweet nectar from the Chai shops. Food was as always, surprisingly tasty and cheap, and our home-made dinner was just superb.

Hallo zuhause

Wieder mal im Bus fuer 8 Stunden, auf dem Weg nach McLeodGanj. Wir mussten leider feststellen das diese Kleinstadt so hektisch ist wie sie selten zuvor war. Der Grund? Der Dalai Lama war in der Stadt um eine Woche seine Lehren in einem der Haupttempel zu verbreiten. Wir wollten es natuerlich auch nicht verpassen und haben uns gleich Eintrittspaesse besorgt und ein Uebersetztungsradio. Leider mussten wir feststellen das es nicht ganz so beeindruckend war, wie wirs uns vorgestellt haben und sind somit nur einige Male hingegangen. Aber den Dalai Lama in Person zu sehen war natuerlich schon etwas ganz besonderes das einem wahrscheinlich nur einmal passiert.

Das Zimmer das wir in Daramkot, halbe Stunde Fussmarsch von McLeod, gefunden haben war das Beste bisher. Wir haben uns einen Elektrokocher gemietet und uns unser eigenes Fruehstueck gekocht und einmal sogar ein Curry ausprobiert.

Ansonsten haben wir echt nette Leute getroffen, haben viele Wanderungen unternommen und haben die Berge genossen, wenns der Regen zugelassen hat.
Aaron hat ein paar Englisch Stunden gegeben fuer Tibetische Fluechtlinge. Und wir haben versucht Freiwilligenarbeit zu bekommen aber ohne Erfolg. Nach 2 Wochen haben wir dann beschlossen weiterzufahren.
