So as much as Jared and I were enjoying the family like atmosphere of the VG, we were looking forward to some luxury and anonymity. Unreliable a/c (in 95 - 100 degree weather), a bad internet connection (yes, we’re that addicted) and constantly making conversation with the hosts had us anxious to get to the Hyatt. Not to mention that we were looking for some new surroundings and knew that these were going to be plush. See, I had managed to score us a ridiculously good deal on our room there. I had gotten 25% off the Hyatt’s guaranteed “best rate” and then managed to get us upgraded to one of the nicest suites on the property. We had taken a peak at the room online, and it looked like it was going to be bigger than our old condo. Plus the hotel is set on a private beach, offers complimentary yoga in the morning and meditation classes in the evening and is home to the largest pool in India.
Let me just say, we have not been disappointed.
Here’s a video tour of our room .
The room has also offered us each a bit of our
own personal relaxation - Jared can chill out in the bedroom watching TV while I can sit quietly in the frontroom or on the patio reading. It’s honestly like we’re living here, but better. We’ve managed to still do it on the (relative) cheap by renting a scooter and leaving the hotel to eat and drink at local restaurants and stocking our fridge with wine, beer and snacks. We’re a bit of posers here in this suite because the prices for everything else are too rich for our blood. I guess you could say we’re housepoor ☺. Let me qualify that by saying that this place, and everything in it, is a BARGAIN by North America standards. It is a 4 or 5 star property and absolutely gorgeous and relaxing. And what would be a $50 meal here would be a $150 meal elsewhere. But since we’re here for so long, we figure lavish $50-60 meals everyday is a bit over our budget (and our stomachs), especially when the price of splurging at a nice Indian restaurant in town hovers around $10 (maybe $20 if we get a bottle of wine). Plus, it’s meant getting out and interacting with INDIA
versus the tourists that come to India.
Now, don’t get me wrong. We are still relaxing a ridiculous amount. Each day pretty much involves us getting up, doing yoga or some sort of activity, having a late breakfast, and then heading out around 11 am to explore a new beach or sit by the pool. We’ll do that until maybe 3 pm and then we head home to chill out in our room watching TV or reading until around 7 (it is friggin’ hot as can be and super humid here, so by 3 pm we are usually at our limit). After chilling at home, we’re off to dinner. Terrible, huh?
I promise there’ll be more interesting posts to come, but for now Jared and I enjoying our streak of (well-deserved) boredom.
