Occupied by the UK in 1841, Hong Kong was formally ceded by China the following year; various adjacent lands were added later in the 19th century. Pursuant to an agreement signed by China and the UK on 19 December 1984, Hong Kong became the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China on 1 July 1997. In this agreement, China has promised that, under its "one country, two systems" formula, China's socialist economic system will not be imposed on Hong Kong and that Hong Kong will enjoy a high degree of autonomy in all matters except foreign and defense affairs for the next 50 years. Hello HK Asia » Hong Kong
What am amazing place. I think our first challenge arrived in the form of the Hong Kong airport. For those of you who don't know, the airport here has 70+ gates, and is divided into completely separate buildings, so you have different building around which the planes park... so how do u get to the main entrance?? you go downstairs to a level that's underground, and then u stand there for a long time and wonder why u've ended up in a big room with 1 wall that's seethrough glass. And then this train comes out of a tunnel and the [View Full Entry]

I finally saw HK. This city never sleeps. I'm finally updating this entry. Today is February 2008. This trip was back in 2004! Hopefully, I can remember most of what happened. HK was part of my Taiwan/HK trip with my friend Sam and his wife Teresa. Our stay in HK was short - maybe 3~4 days. After arriving in Hong Kong Internal Airport, Sam, Teresa, and I took a private car to the hotel courtesy of the hotel. The hotel was located somewhere near Kowloon and Yau Ma Tei. This was a time for Sam and Teresa to rekindle their relationship. [View Full Entry]

Our Honeymoon Asia » Hong Kong
Hong Kong. A city of eclectic tastes, cultures, races, beliefs, lifestyles and colour. This was our destination for our Honeymoon. What a wonderful choice. We loved Hong Kong, China and Macau. We both liked different things about each. We enjoyed the vibrancy of the area, that it seems to never sleep, there is always something going on. We enjoyed the richness of the area as well as the markets and stalls run by everyday people. We had fun communicating with people who didn't know our language and we didn't know theirs. Relationships were established through gesture and smiles. Smiles speak al [View Full Entry]

Going to Hong Kong  Asia » Hong Kong
I needed a vacation after a hectic year in the office with so much projects here and there! We decided to go to Hong Kong and check out Ocean Park. We got a nice vacation package from Philippine Airlines through their SwingAround Package. This is my second time in HongKong but first time with my family. We chose Ramada Hotel Kowloon side because it's affordable and with acceptable bed and bath rooms, and it's near the shopping area at the center of Tsimshatsui. We took the early flight so we can still have the whole afternoon in exploring Kowloon side. We [View Full Entry]

I went to Hong Kong because I had to change the plane here to go to Australia. I stayed here 2 days. First day, I took a bus to see the Buddha. It is really big. And the other day, I hanged around with my friend whom I met during this trip. After walking in the city for a few hours, we got lost. So we had to ask somebody how to get to our destination. And I suggested my friend like this. "We have to ask somebody anyway, then why don't we ask cute girl". And we did. You [View Full Entry]

What seemed like such a good idea in the flight centre!! did not so on the flight going there. First thing that went through my mind as i stepped off the plane at HongKong airport: 'what the hell am i doing?' 'and why?' 'what is the point in going 8000 miles east to a country where you know noone, and have no specific reason for being there other than to see things?' Overwhelmed by the crowds, the strong odor of fried noodles and chicken and the unreadable text..... I dont know what it is with me, i get an idea to [View Full Entry]

3 Days in the City Asia » Hong Kong
We wanted to do a short trip in the region and didn't have much time off to do it in. We decided to try for Hong Kong. We ended up booking our flight through a local travel agent and this combined our flight, hotel and transportation to and from the airport. We were on our own once we checked in but that was okay because J and I usually avoid the organized tourist stuff anyhow. Our hotel was in Kowloon, which is across the bay from Hong Kong City, but is a great place to be in its own right. It [View Full Entry]

Hong Kong Boat
Hong Kong Monument

July 15-25, 2002. Our first family out-of-the-country vacation. Kelvin is just a little over 2 years old. We flew to HongKong via Singapore Airlines (and costed us dearly!, no budget airlines yet) and stayed at The Excelsior Hotel in Causeway Bay. Upon arrival, we took a shuttle bus going to HongKong Island. It was roughly an hour trip going there. We checked in, unpacked some of the things and headed out to see what HongKong has to offer. First stop was a park near the hotel. It is located in the middle of the busy streets of Causeway Bay. We let [View Full Entry]
