After much planning and some teary goodbyes, we were on our way to Hong Kong for a week of overeating and overspending before we jetted off to New Zealand. We booked a one-way flight through STA Travel to Auckland with a stop in Hong Kong for 6 days. Man, Hong Kong was hot! We stayed in the Gold Coast Hotel Hong Kong, which was beautiful. However, a lot further away from the bustling city than we would have liked. We spent most days travelling by bus into Kowloon to have a haggle at the markets and eat the street food. We also caught the Star Ferry over to Victoria Harbour. From Victoria Harbour, we took the famous Peak Tram up to the top to see the skyline of Hong Kong. Trying to get on that tram ... read more

After whining about not getting a no-pay job in New Zealand. I've finally got an offer from the Big Bay Holiday Park located at Awhitu Peninsula. It's located near the beach, so I'm expecting sand, sea breeze and sunshine. It's my first job in New Zealand, getting pretty excited right now. Since quiting my job, life has been quite meaningless and empty. Somehow writing this blog kind of gives me a new goal every day. It's the only way I won't give up writing and forget how to type when I'm back later. When I was browsing the information about New Zealand earlier, it suddenly hit me that Easter is approaching. Thus, New Zealand won't be occupied by foreign travelers but domestic ones too. Anyways, this is the link of the place I will be working ... read more

After quiting my job, it's finally time for me to start finding an accomodation in Auckland. However, the no-pay job hunting thing is so much harder than I expected. I've sent over 10 emails so far, but still no one could provide me a place to stay. I'm growing more and more desperate day by day. Honestly I've underestimated how difficult it is to find a no-pay job in Auckland, especially the weather there is so good now. Luckily I'm a very optimistic person. Throughout this harsh no-pay job hunting process, I still believe that I could eventually find a place to stay. The worst scenerio is paying for a hostel. That's like my last resort. Fingers crossed. There is less than one week to go. May God bless me and get me through this.... read more

Lisäksi vaunuun oli myyty sei... read more

July 7TH, 2011 Yesterday we had 2 lectures on environment and indigenous peoples of Hong Kong. For the second lecture we went to the western side of Hong Kong to a building that was said to the village chief’s council room. From what I understood living in the walled villages is very misogynistic and unfair for women. I will admit I am a bit of a feminist so I didn't like their stupid grounds for banning women from making political or educational decisions just because they’re female. She described how most of the time women were banned from participating in festivities. She described how the men meander around town drinking, gambling, and smoking and how the women do all of the work because the men would say all of the time “I have a king’s destiny” ... read more

As you may recall, I tried to find the walled city in the New Territories a while ago ... and then missed my bus stop. Determination not completely thwarted, I set out again, but this time I was smart enough to take a friend with me who speaks beautiful Cantonese. (These things happen when you're from Hong Kong!) We met up around 2pm and first went to the post office. Not the most exciting of trips, I know, but I wanted to mail some things back to the US. In China, they go through the box to make sure you're not mailing home... secrets or something. (I had a friend who wanted to mail home a DVD of photos once, and they wouldn't let him.) Plus, since my Chinese isn't excellent in the area of post ... read more

I had a plan for today. Today is China's National Tomb Sweeping holiday, which means that while none of my student sweep anything, I have a day off. I decided to try and so some sightseeing in Hong Kong as well as a bit of shopping. My plan was simple enough: check out the old, 18th century walled villages by Yuen Long, maybe check out the view from Victoria Peak if it's not overcast like last time, and then try to find some black sandals and do some boot pricing. I got to Yuen Long with no problems. I always take the bus from the Shenzhen border to Yuen Long, so it's on my way into the city. I followed my bible's advice (Lonely Planet, for those of you playing along at home) and took ... read more

Hello, blog! ...and to think I bought a journal a day before! har har har! Not in the business of writing about my life and what goes around it on the net, but this site seems fun, so why not give it a try. It's fail anyways...my life, that is. *sigh* To start off, this guys life has nothing new going on except a few fail moments here and a little more fail moments there. Life is a routine. The herd moves, and not to my suprise, I move along. Oh how I wish I were younger. The dreams I held, the strength I had, the passion that was ablaze in my eyes! That's when I did my share of travelling, as I recall. Everything was fun 2 years ago! Send me back, God! Oh, curse ... read more

Today we woke up late for breakfast and then went by MTR to Sha Tin to vist the temple of ten thousand buddhas which was quite a hike up a very large hill, however it was worth it once up at the top, we then went back into Kowloon for a couple of beers and some dinner. After dinner we walked to the harbour and watched the light show at 8pm. Unfotunately it was very foggy and the lights were almost impossible to see so we went back to the temple streeet market to have another look and then went home. At home we had a great game of Trivial Pursuit, (1995 edition, tough questions for people who were only ten at the time of writing!!!), Mark and Dale stayed up to watch more football!... read more
