So, weekend 2 is here. had a good lie in bed, watched some baseball - I need to understand the rules as I'm going to a game when we go to the States - and now I look out of my hotel room to a glum day. Rain, cloud, but it'll still be touching 30 degrees.
Tom and I are off to some kind of electronics market this afternoon, and we'll all head off into Hong Kong island tonight.
Last night we went down to Tsim Sha Tsui... Temple St to be more precise. In the evenings this is a huge market selling the tackiest tat you could possibly imagine. All the sort of stuff that Del Boy would buy a job lot of and flog out of a suitcase on Peckham market.
Then the rain came down, and boy did it come down. More on all that later.
When we did get to eat, it was one of the nicest meals I have had out here. Kangaroo steak.
This weather stuff. You'd think that as a Brit we'd be used to all this. But they have a colour code for weather warnings out here, from Amber, through Red to Black. Last night was a Red warning, floods and the like. When it gets to Black, as it did last weekend, the advice is simply not to go out at all.
Still don't know whats going to happen after next week. Still looks like Shanghai is off in which case we may as well come home. I'll get to know on Monday.
It's Fathers day tomorrow, on the table next to me is a card from the kids. They had the novel idea of getting "Happy Fathers Day" written in Chinese inside by someone at the local Chinese restaurant.
I was asked last night if I would come back to Hong Kong. I would, with Hils, to share the experience with her. But we all agreed that we'd pretty much "done" the place now. Its a crowded place, with huge buildings, no space, traffic a plenty, and your sterotypical Chinese sights on the streets. But once you've experienced it, thats it. There is simply more of the same. Tai Chi on the streets, bringing Karma (allegedly), and neon signs everywhere.
The things I will not miss about Homg Kong.... this obsession with Shopping Malls. They are everwhere. Air conditioning is the only thing going for them.
Anyway, going to do a little research and get back with another little entry.
