Walk of the Stars, Big Buddha, Stilt Houses and Pink Dolphins We decided on a guided tour today because we could cover so much more territory and wanted to go to Lantau Island. We got up early, headed to the metro, swiped our Octopus card and hopped on the MTR headed to Fortress Hill station where we needed to find the City Garden Hotel by 7:45. We exited at Forest Hill amid all the folks heading to their offices, followed signs, took a wrong turn, found the raised pedestrian walkway, asked a direction or two and found the hotel. A Grayline shuttle bus picked us up and took us to Kowloon where we joined a large bus full of people. Then, off to the Walk of the Stars along Victoria Harbor on Kowloon Island. This is ... read more

I knew I’d love Hong Kong, but I had no idea I’d be rapturously in love with the city by the end of my time there. Hong Kong is endlessly fascinating, it’s impossible to get bored here. Here are some of my favorite experiences in Hong Kong. Eating lots of street foods, it was really an amazing experience eating dimsum, big crepes, drinking milk tea and so much more. The foods were really outstanding. Taking the STAR FERRY across VICTORIA HARBOR, It’s the cheapest deal in town cross from Hong Kong to Kowloon by boat for just $3.40 HKD ($0.44 USD) and take in the absolute best view of the skyline. SHOPPING IN MONG KOK was one of my favorite neighborhoods to wander in Hong Kong. Here you’ll find a flower market, a street selling pet ... read more

Hong Kong is amazing!!! ???? Stifling heat, towering buildings and a very odd variety of smells!!!!?? After a delayed flight we were all exhausted but still had the energy to find an authentic Chinese restaurant called Cheers! Then do some shopping at temple street market!!!? Today is our last day in Hong Kong! I can't believe our trip is almost over! We will check out of our hotel tomorrow and leave for the airport about 12:30. We plan on sleeping in a bit, having the hotel buffet breakfast tomorrow, and packing up in the morning. We'll get to the airport the same way we got to the hotel (taxi to the Kowloon airport express station, then train to the airport). Today was our day tour to Lantau Island. We got picked up at a hotel around the corner about 8:20 this morning, the bus picked up a few more people at different hotels, then we all transferred to a different bus for the drive to Lantau Island. As I mentioned yesterday, Lantau Island is the largest of Hong Kong's outlying islands. ... read more

A fond farewell, Well, I am on my way back to the states! It is a bit of a tug of war with my emotions. There is nothing more important to me than my family, heck I even got a tattoo that says “family” while I was here. That being said, my favorite thing to do is travel and explore. So with those two things heavy on my mind, my adventure here has come to an end, but I can’t be more excited to see and hug my wonderful wife, kids and family. I feel satisfied that I did all I could do while I was visiting Hong Kong. I have made some friends and contacts that I will hopefully be able to stay in touch with for the rest of my life. I have been ... read more

I can't believe I have been here for this long and have only just discovered this place. I had a co-worker of mine come to HK for the week to conduct interviews and such and get a grasp on what I have been doing for the past 8 weeks. I asked a mutual friend who is also based here in HK if he wanted to come meet us for a beer in Mui Wo. He was unable but said "Make sure you take Andy to the infinity pool outside of Tai O." I looked into it and I was instantly hooked! Sept 9 is the Mid Autumn Festival which is a national holiday so nearly everyone had the day off work. We were unable to gain access to the airport on a day like this, so ... read more

We have made it as far as the Vancouver airport! We are relaxing in the Premium Lounge, having a beer, before our 2 am flight to Hong Kong. Susan got a deal on the lounge passes on Groupon and I'm glad she did. It's a nice way to start our trip. It's quiet here, there is lots of comfortable seating and food and drink. Our cats are in good hands with our catsitter Ni. We're so glad she's staying in our place taking care of the cats while we're away. Ella knew something was up because of the suitcases. She always hides when visitors come but she came out when before we left so we know she'll be ok with Ni while we're away. Our friend and neighbour Myron drove us to the airport - thanks ... read more

Hello All, Today was certainly a great day. I was planning on heading out to Po Lin Monastery and Tai O with one of the pilots, but he is on day three on not wanting to move more than about 10' from a toilet. Poor guy hasn't really ever eaten anything different and he is hurtin. He thinks this time it was the bananas and when I tried to explain to him that anyone who eats an entire bundle of bananas might not feel great he just couldn't hear it, then he ate a pound of prunes to try to clear out his system. I see a flaw. Anyway, I headed out at 7:45 this morning and started my day, and oh what a day it was! Great sights, cool experiences, and of course, my favorite, ... read more

The last few days were pretty busy with work, but I did have a few little mini outings and got a few good pics to go along with them. I had a morning free so I headed over to Stanley which is a beach/resort type area about an hour by bus from HK central station. It only takes an hour because of all of the stops and the traffic. I got a top deck front seat which is like riding a roller coaster! I was hoping for a kayak rental place to go paddle around for a few hours but struck out as I was not a member of any boat clubs. It was still beautiful and I found a good dim sum lunch place for about $58 HKD. I also stopped by a cool "pirate" ... read more

Not a whole ton to report, but I got some kind of cool pix to share so I will put them here. Yesterday I went in to Kowloon to pick up my suits! I was super excited to see how they looked. I am very pleased! I took the ferry in which was fun, but we couldn't go outside. I got some cool shots of the Hong Kong Skyline from our trip in. After I picked up my suits, I decided it was too nice of a day to head back to Discovery Bay so I decided to take the train back to Central Hong Kong and take the raised sidewalks to the mid-levels. The mid-levels are high rises on the main island of Hong Kong as opposed to the rest of the buildings which are ... read more
