The description of this hike: The minibus will drop us half the way up Tai Mo Shan (Hong Kong's highest peak) but we'll still have 550m of climbing to get to the top. After descending down through Leadmine Pass, we pass through monkey country, around Shing Mun Reservoir , before finishing at Pineapple Dam. This is a moderate hike with 550m of climbing in total (equivalent to about 180 floors of a building), and requiring the stamina to walk for 4 hours.
It was 16 degrees when I left Central and by the time we reached our drop off point, the temp had plummeted to 11. We (20 of us) hiked most of the way in the clouds. It was a hard slog up the hill, but in hindsight, probably harder as we went from the bus to steps and chilly weather. After the steep bit, the landscape opened up to rambling hilltops, scattered with huge boulders and with what i can only imagine were spectacular views - if there was no cloud.
Going downhill was hard on the old knees, but completely worth it when we got down to Shing Mun Reservoir, what a pretty place - a

After about 4 hours we made it to the minibus stop. Unfortunately minibuses only have 16 seats and by law can't take more people. Paul (hike organiser) suggested a few of us do stage 6 of the Maclehose trail to get home - only 45 mins he said and by the time we wait for the 2nd minibus, it'll be 30-40 mins anyway. He asked for volunteers - there were no hands - then he started naming people - yep, i was one of them. So 4 of us did stage 6, at a fast pace.
Awesome hike, My legs are stuffed, but im a happy camper
