Truth be known, with Ross gone we both felt a little lost. Well it was to be expected I suppose, after all prior to his visit it was almost 10 months since we last saw him and we've been away from the rest of our darling family for almost three months. And those gorgeous grandchildren Grace & Rupert have no doubt grown in leaps and bounds since we've been away. Enough to make us a bit blue!
But, as you do in such circumstances, we took ourselves in hand and went off exploring. Ocean Park was one such place which we visited on a hot steamy Hong Kong day. Then came a day of shopping in the rain - well at least wandering in and out of many of the shops but not really buying much - as an offshore typhoon threatened. Later, as severe tropical storm Kammuri - which is over the northern part of the South China Sea - edged closer to Hong Kong it brought more unsettled weather to the region so we had no choice but to change our plans since ferries and buses had been suspended. Kev had booked to trip to Macau which was cancelled
so basically it was a case of either watching television or reading in our room while outside - we are on the 8th floor - the visibility was only about 100 metres. And my visits to the Hong Kong Arts & History Museums were also thwarted by the weather as the No. 8 Storm Signal was raised at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday 6th meaning that winds of 63 kilometers per hour or more were forecast according to the observatory who had replaced it with a No. 3 Strong Wind Signal by 5:21 p.m.
Time has moved on and we are now at the airport & about to check in. Hong Kong airport has free Wi-Fi throughtout the building which I'm rather impressed with. Yesterday it was impossible to leave our hotel - well it would have been extremely foolhardy to even attempt to do so - which meant that come early evening I was going stir crazy so Kev & I decided that a couple of cocktails were in order. We ventured up to the hotel's cocktail lounge on the 13th floor & I must say it did help a little!! This morning we decided to go to the Art
& History Museums only to discover that in Hong Kong all such venues are closed on a Thursday - so it was obviously not meant to be. That left us with not many alternatives other than shopping but we did discover Kowloon Park which was a tranquil place to spend a little time. As with all of Kowloon - and no doubt Hong Kong island & surrounding islands - everywhere was being cleaned up following the damage the strong winds had caused. But with the Olympics starting tomorrow there is a real air of excitement about the place. Talking of excitement - KEV & I ARE GETTING PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT BOARDING QF 128 in a little while. Just wish these ominous looking clouds would blow away!! See you soon in Oz!!!!!
Too windy- we couldn't go in this because of the wind - a typhoon is on its way!!
Orville & Wilburwould be surprised if they discovered how flight has progressed since their day!
