After having lunch with you all in ABO before heading to the airport, we had an uneventful journey to London. We had something to eat in the airport and then just chilled out in the club lounge before boarding the plane to HK. I was totally in my element trotting up the stairs and G soon followed suit when handed his first champagne. G also loved the menu and wine list that he ate and drank from and has saved it especially for Homer (I managed to sleep through dinner but made it up for champagne breakfast!).
Once we landed we were delighted to find that our luggage had not been lost and headed for the airport Express train to Kowloon. This was super efficient and we were soon in a taxi from Kowloon to our hotel in Mong Kok. The hotel was fab and the reception took us up to the club lounge to check in with a drink. The lounge is lovely and has a Thai feel to it with all the brown leather chairs etc and has a great view over the city being at the 36th floor. The nice girl told us to relax and get
a nibble and to let her know when we were finished and she would have our bags sent up - G took great delight in this and arrived back with mini hamburgers, tapas and goodness knows what else. I think we were relaxing more than most as a while later one of the concierge guys came over and asked for one of our room keys to put the bags in the room as they had been delivered already!!
After our couple of drinks we headed up to our room got changed and then headed back out. G adopted his usual holiday attire (map in hand) and we jumped on the MTR over to HK Island and then headed to the peak tram. This was quite amazing in the angle it climbs and as you will see from the photos it had an incredible view. After we had a look around up there and headed back down it was after 11 so we just came back for a nightcap to make sure we were all bright eyed for today.
Today we went down to the Star Ferry after breakfast and then walked around the island following one of the
guide brochures picked up from the airport (I thought i did really well finding these until G pointed out that half of them were in Chinese). We then decided to head back up the peak in the day time as the view is meant to be quite different in the daytime. When we got to the peak tram the queue was huge and we thought the wait would be well over an hour so we decided that we would be super fit and try to walk up to the peak. After about 40 minutes of climbing steps and very steep paths (and about 25 minutes after seeing the last sign and the memory of G earlier trotting me the wrong way when he mistook west on the map for east) I thought this was the worst idea ever. However we persevered and kept going up anyway as G helpfully suggested that there must be some sort of peak somewhere and we eventually saw the sky tower in the distance so arrived probably at the same time as we would have had we waited for the train. On the bright side though we both thought we definately deserved a lunch time
tinnie which we had at the peak overlooking the harbour etc.
Signing off now as G going for a swim in the rooftop pool and I am off to the spa. We have a harbour cruise booked tonight for the symphony of lights so that should be fun and then we are off to the night market. Woof to Simba
