Arrived in Hong Kong around 1pm local time after a long, leg cramping (well, for Gary at least) journey. Stepping out of the plane and being hit by the blast of heat - we knew we had arrived!!!
Customs was a breeze and my bag arrived in good time - although we had to wait around for a while for Gary's bag to arrive (he was beginning to build up a sweat). We were kindly greeted by a good friend of Bobby's who drove us to our hotel in Hong Kong Island.
It has to be said that the Chinese take great care of their air conditioning and the blast of ice cold air as we sat in the back of the car was very welcoming. Throughout the journey we were made aware of the interesting sights and even ended up with a dinner invitation!!
After arriving at the hotel we found that we had been upgraded (on the top floor) and enjoyed a few hours of catch up sleep in the heat of the afternoon as our sleep the previous night on the plane had been minimal.
After we awoke and freshened up, we decided to
make our way out and face the streets of Hong Kong. Having firstly noted the countless number of McDonalds that were about, we decided to search for somewhere a bit more traditional for our first Hong Kong dining experience. And what an experience it was.....
The Bangkok Thai Restaurant was the name of our eatery. Having reached here and realising that at 8pm, our stomachs couldn't really handle much more rumbling. After ordering our food, we had a slight communication problem regarding our drinks. And then the food later on too. We also somehow managed to end up having our starter following our main, which by this point, we were stuffed.
We walked off the meal down to Causeway Bay, the first major shopping district from our hotel. Filled with many traditional stalls and designer boutiques, we couldn't believe how alive the shopping precinct could be at this time on a Tuesday night. Although this turned out to be the tip of the iceberg...
When we started to feel tired (or Gary getting bored) we headed back to our hotel. Some flashes in the sky started a dispute between us as Gary was adamant that these were

air traffic control signals due to it being a very cloudy night. As I argued that it was in fact lightning, Gary protested there was not even a hint of the sound of thunder. Before he'd finished the sentence a very loud rumble (and it wasn't his stomach this time) disproved his theory and we hurried on fearing rainfall...
Let's just say we got soaked to the bone.
When we returned and dried off, we settled into bed in hope to have a good nights sleep. However, the jetlag had apparantly not worn off and at 3:30am, we finally drifted off.
P.s. Not all entries will be as detailed as this as I know some may be bored!!! (Already!!)
