Well having boarded our Hydro-jet back to Hong Kong we were informed that signal Flag 1 for a Tornado had been raised and the water was likely to be a bit choppy. While we had no idea what that meant we knew it wasn't good news. The journey back was rough and we bounced across the water more than we skimmed but was still fine.
Once safely back on dry land we got a subway to Hong Kong Island. Causeway bay lies beside Central Hong Kong and is a really nice area. Once again the reception of our hostel was in a completely different building to our room and once again the room was in a small apartment that had been converted into 5 rooms using thin cardboard for walls as far as we could tell.
We dropped our bags and headed straight back out. Wednesday Nights in Hong Kong means only one thing - Horse Racing at Happy Valley Race Course. We donned the most respectable clothes we had, which aren't very respectable at all and headed to the track. A one euro entry fee is serious value considering the amazing setting of the course. The huge stands
are surrounded by equally huge skyscrapers which makes for a spectacular setting. As in Macau budget considerations had to be taken into account so we had a few beers and picked horses rather than backed them. Naturally as we weren't betting we had four winners and two places in 6 races. We planned to go out and heading back to ditch our bags we found we were locked out of our cardboard room by our cardboard door. By the time we got in we were ready to sleep and gave up on the night out.
The following day we headed to the Space Museum on Kowloon which was really interesting. We watched a movie on a massive Imax screen called Speed which was amazing on so huge a screen. That night we headed to the street markets in North Kowloon which were absolutely mental before heading back to the hostel.
The following day we took it easy visiting the internet and getting packed for our flight to Korea. We headed to the airport the next day and checked in. As with everywhere in Hong Kong the airport is packed with shopping centres and very shiny and new.
Next Stop Seoul...

Hi guys, I am now up to date with your blog, after a bit of an absence. It all really looks amazing and I am mad jealous, even though I know in my heart that I could never use the shower/toilet device! Ciaran - thanks for your text from China, it looks like an amazing place. Weather is pretty much November dreary in Ireland and everyone is starting to think about Christmas. I am mad busy in work and so is Dee Meaney. Just back from a visit in her house. Apartment purchase still going slow, but hopefully have it finalised before xmas. We will defo have the parties I never had in college in my new place - well maybe without the puking or random fights! Dublin is gone mad with random killings, but essentially still the same. Keep on rolling, Dee.
