I have got up early in the morning and decided to join the Pilgrims at the Barkhor Circuit. Every morning they offer incense and circle around the Jokhang Temple, before going to one of the Monasteries in the mountains. I joined them to the Monastery called Drak Yerpa. I was a trully awesome experience. There were no cops, no Military, no Secret Police. The tiny monastery is on the face of the mountain and the khora going around is spectacular . The path joining together caves with altars, where monks are meditating is awesome and the sky was blue the sun was shining. The people chanting, praying and throwing their wishes in the air.. . It was amazing.
I have decided to rent a jeep as form of transport to the Nepali border. I shared the costs with 3 other guys namely Brian, Chris and Larry and off we went : )
Our first stop was the Yamdrok Lake, a sacred Tibetan lake with a shape of a scorpion and a very dark future..( the chinese are building a hydro-electrical plant underneath so in approx 10 years all the water would be gone...)
After contemplating the amazing scenery we set
off for Gyantse, a small village which (by the LP) is a typical tibetan village.( It was a great surprise to us when we arrived to find a dusty very chinese village) We have explored the Fort, and I must say that it was one of the greatest Forts I ever seen : ))))
The underground dungeon was very creepy and you could almost feel the suffering of the prisioners... Everything was old musty and dusty so you could really feel like you are 500years back in time.
We liked it so much that we didn't realize about how fast the time was flying by... so we got locked in...we have tried to get out, but the fort was built to keep people out ( in our case in) ant the builders did a great job, and as you can ecpect we did not succed. We have been considering our alternatives and realized that we do not have warm clothes, food, water and the batteries of our flashlights are needing a change. As it was getting dark, climbing down on the steep wall and the steep hill was out of question. Brian tried it anyway, and lucky for us some
guys of the village noticed him and sent back the security guys with the key : ))))
The next day we have visited the monastery in town. (we got overwhelmed with the amount of beggars.)
After Gyantse we headed to the town of Shigatse, Seat of the Panchen Lama. (if he ever appears alive, as he is missing....)
The Tashilumpo Monastery is a huge complex. In its heyday it used to be home of 7000 monks. Today This number is down to 700. It is how we all imagine a Tibetan Village. Tiny winding cobblestone streets, monks walking past chatting, praying, spacious temples, Stupas, prayer wheels... All this, under a cloudless blue sky and the sun is shining : )))
H.H. The Dalai Lama is recieving a Price from Prez Bush this week, so the Tibet permits are a bit tricky to get, as the chinese are having an assembly in Beiing, s temporarily the TTB office does not issue any further permits...
When we have started the trip we had no idea if we gonna be able to visit the Everest Basecamp or not. Fortunately in Shigatse the TTB issued us a permit, so ff we went to the
Everest region, but before we have spent a day in Sakya, home of the Sakya Sect ( Red Hat Sect) and the oldest monastery in Tibet.
( kb
10 év múlva kiürül, mivel nincs semmi ami táplálná a tavat...)
A következő nap meglátogattuk a
Mielőtt azonban megérkeztünk volna az Everest Régióba, megálltunk a Sakya Kolostornál mely a vörös süveges szekta otthona, s egyben a legrégibb kolostor Tibetben.
